BREAKDOWN
No roles will be understudied.
BUTTERFLIES ARE FREE, by Leonard Gershe
Director: Allen D. Cornell
TIME PERIOD: Early 1970s
SEEKING:
Don Baker - early twenties. Sings and plays guitar. (doesn’t have to be James Taylor but good enough so we believe he could actually get a gig). Physically attractive. Sensitive. Strong willed. Blind since birth.
Jill Tanner - early twenties. Flighty free spirit. Sexy and funny in an unconscious way.
Mrs. Baker - upper middle class. Late forties- mid fifties. Doting mom. Sophisticated. Wry sense of humor.
Ralph Austin - Late twenties to early forties. Wannabe “auteur“. Rather clueless.
OLEANNA, by David Mamet
Director: Chris Clavelli
TIME PERIOD: Early 90’s
SEEKING:
Note: Actors should justify their characters' behavior, not comment on it.
[JOHN] (40s – 50s) A dynamic college professor on the verge of receiving tenure and a raise. Magnetic personality and verbose. He spends most of the early part of the play waxing eloquently about himself and very little time actually listening. Transforms from a verbose, confident, academic to a man who has lost everything. Facile, great on his feet, and able to turn on a dime. Great with text and finding the humor in the play.
[CAROL] (early – mid 20s) A college student who is initially seemingly naive and extremely anxious and failing her professor’s course. At the start she is unable to express herself clearly and feels incompetent. However, she transforms from a shrinking violet into a callous, well spoken, young woman who possesses great clarity. Facile, great on her feet ,and able to turn on a dime. Great with text and finding the humor in the play.
