Belleville is a chilling Hitchcockian look at the limits of trust, truth, deception and dependency in a world where love and loss can be both pathological and cathartic. Abby and Zack- young, American, and married- have abandoned the stability of a comfortable post-graduate life in the Midwest for Belleville, a bustling, bohemian, multicultural neighborhood in Paris. In an attempt to build a life together away from family and friends, their passive-aggressive and aggressively passionate relationship is put to the test after an awkward afternoon discovery, a landlord’s ultimatum and a cracked toenail.

Note: Some French is spoken throughout the show, familiarity with the French language is a plus.

SEEKING:

Alioune

French-Senegalese. Twenty-five. A landlord. A really nice and understanding guy who does not appreciate being taken advantage of. A family man and hard worker, upstanding and friendly but boundaried.

The following roles have been CAST, but seeking possible replacements:

Abby

CAST. American, Caucasian. Twenty-eight, bright, vulnerable and maybe a little neurotic. Big-hearted but occasionally jagged. Still recovering from the death of her mother, and still figuring out how to find purpose for her many gifts.

Zack

CAST. American, Caucasian. Twenty-eight. A bright and apparently eminently capable guy and husband with a dark side and low level marijuana dependency. He is deeply loving and that occasionally verges on controlling.

Amina

CAST. French-Senegalese. Twenty-five. Fierce and fiercely loyal mama bear. Tells it like it is when no one else will. A commanding, almost haughty presence.
