APPOINTMENTS

AEA members: email bartercastingasst@bartertheatre.com with name, telephone number, email address, the exact time and day you would like to audition, and whether you will be attending the dance call. SEEKING

Equity dancers for various roles/ensemble in the upcoming 2019 season productions. See breakdown.

Theatre Statement: Anyone interested in the Resident Company or any musical, is encouraged to attend the movement/dance auditions, even if you do not consider yourself to be a dancer.

There are no Stage Management positions available at this time. SMs can check separate notice on Casting Call for submission for future consideration.

In attendance at the dance auditions will be Amanda Aldridge and Ashley Campos, resident choreographers as well as Andrew Hampton Livingston, resident company member.

OTHER

Important General Audition NOTE: While EMCs and adult non-Equity actors may be seen as time permits at these auditions, the theatre will NOT see any non-Equity actors under the age of 18 at these auditions. Only AEA performers under the age of 18 will be able to attend these auditions. Separate auditions may be held at a later date for performers under 18 years of age.

An Equity Monitor will not be provided. The producer will run all aspects of this audition.

BREAKDOWN

Movement/Dancing Preparation Instructions

The movement/dance audition site will be open half an hour before the scheduled audition time on each day for warm-up and changing. Be prepared to stay through the entire movement/dance audition time. Wear shoes and clothing appropriate for a dance audition. Teaching of the first dance combination will begin promptly at 1pm each day. The movement/dance auditions will be broken down into two levels: Choreographed movement/dance: EVERYONE ATTENDING THE DANCE AUDITIONS WILL DO THIS

COMBINATION after which we will ask the more experienced dancers to stay and learn a second combination. Dance combination for dancers, including Actor/Singers who also consider themselves dancers. Only those requested to do the second combination will learn it. If you are a dancer who plans to attend the movement/dance auditions but do not plan to attend the acting/singing auditions, that is OK, but please inform the audition monitor.

Please bring THREE (3) copies of your picture and resume.

Barter Theatre 2019 Season

SEEKING:
Year-round, Resident Company Members: Most members of our resident company sing and dance; for these auditions, we highly encourage you to sing and attend the movement auditions in addition to acting if you are interested in becoming a member of the resident company. Also seeking Local and Non-Local Jobbers for roles for a single show or a single repertory, and actors for six readings and staged productions during the Appalachian Festival of Plays and Playwrights.

Rehearsals for most plays begin approximately six – eight weeks before they open. Most Actors tend to participate in two productions during the same repertory.

2019 Season includes:
NOTE: Seeking actors for the following productions and roles. For shows/roles that have already been CAST by the theatre’s resident acting company, actors auditioning will also be considered for possible future replacements if needed.
The dates following each show are the dates of performance. Rehearsals begin 6-8 weeks before performances.

GIRL- 24-34, intelligent, direct, a dry sense of humor. A remarkable and unforgettable girl. Must play the piano and sing beautifully. Must have a strong Czech/ Eastern European accent.
Mezzo soprano. High Note C4 (Middle C), Low G3

GUY- A struggling Irish musician. Lost and a bit sad. Works with his Da in a vacuum repair shop. Must sing and play guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Baritone. High note C#5/Db5, Low G2. Falsetto, Rock

BILLY- 32-45. A big, lovable Irish man. Owner of the music store where Girl plays piano. Loud, gregarious, sometimes vulnerable. Singer and strong guitar player; ukulele, drums. Strong Irish accent. Baritone. High note G#4/Ab4, Low G2. Rock voice.

REZA- 25-35. A strong and confident Czech girl. The life of the party. Excellent fiddle player. Eastern European accent.
Soprano. High note A5, Low C4 (Middle C). Folk rock voice.

BARUSKA- over 50, woman. The mother of GIRL. Traditional Czech mama. Must play the accordion and piano. Czech accent. Alto. High note C5, Low G3. Accordion, concertina, piano, melodica.

BANK MANAGER- 30-50yo. He seems straight laced, but his passion for music bubbles just under the surface. Must sing and play guitar & cello well. Must have a strong Irish (Cork) accent. Tenor. High note B4

DA- Guy's dad. A sensitive soul and quiet, caring father. Must play guitar, ukulele/mandolin well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Baritone.

SVEC- 20-40yo. An odd duck. A kind of anti-hipster. Loves watching tv. Must play guitar & drum kit extremely well. Must have a strong Czech/ Eastern European accent. Baritone. High note G#4/Ab4, Low B2. Rock voice. Playing banjo or mandolin, a big plus.

ANDREJ- 20-29yo. Kind hearted and earnest. A fast food worker with big dreams. Must play guitar & bass guitar extremely well. Must have a strong Czech/Eastern European accent. Baritone. High note G#4/Ab4, Low C2 (Low C)

EAMON- 25-50yo. A music studio manager. Tough and hard to read, has a great poker face. Must sing and play guitar (& piano) well. Must have a strong Irish accent.
Baritone, High note G#4/Ab4, Low G2

EMCEE- 25-50. An emcee at a bar. Charming, also a ball buster. Must sing, play guitar, and piano extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent.

EX Girlfriend- 25-35. Guy's ex-girlfriend. Lives in New York. Kind, warm, funny, and undeniably likeable. Must play violin extremely well. Must have a strong Irish accent. Mezzo soprano.

IVANKA- 6-8 yo. The sweet-natured daughter of Girl. Singer. Less than 45 inches tall. Mezzo soprano.
