Breakdown

After a disastrouscoast-to-coastbike ride, 21-year-oldcollegedropout Leo arrives at his communist91-year-oldgrandmother’sGreenwichVillage apartment.Overa month’stime,theseunlikelyroommatesfind each other infuriatingand bewilderring—but ultimatelydiscover unexpectedkinshipin this humorousand criticallyacclaimedportrayalof two outsiders finding their way in today’sworld.

LEO: Male, plays 21 (could be a slightly older actor that can play 21). He is tall, slim, but athletic. He has a very mysteriouspast for someone so young. Angry, impatientand aloof travelingfrom one placeto the next, a manwithouta home.

BEC:Female, 21. A young, healthy-lookinggirl. Like Leo, she has takena littlelongerthan most to decide what to do with her life. Havingdecided to go to collegeand beingolder than most of her classmates,she feelsalienatedand lonely.She cares a great deal for Leo but he abandonedher some time ago whichhas made her distrustfulwhile stillhopelesslyoptimistic.

AMANDA: Female, 19, Chinese-American.A younggirl in lovewith fashionlivingin New York City. The daughter of Chineseparents who moved to Americato escape the communist movementin China,she is wistful and relativelycarefree.She is understandablyanti- communist.
