Breakdown
After a disastrous coast-to-coast bike ride, 21-year-old college dropout Leo arrives at his communist 91-year-old grandmother’s Greenwich Village apartment. Over a month’s time, these unlikely roommates find each other infuriating and bewilderring— but ultimately discover unexpected kinship in this humorous and critically acclaimedportrayal of two outsiders finding their way in today’s world.
LEO: Male, plays 21 (could be a slightly older actor that can play 21). He is tall, slim, but athletic. He has a very mysterious past for someone so young. Angry, impatient and aloof traveling from one place to the next, a man without a home.
BEC: Female, 21. A young, healthy-looking girl. Like Leo, she has taken a little longer than most to decide what to do with her life. Having decided to go to college and being older than most of her classmates, she feels alienated and lonely. She cares a great deal for Leo but he abandoned her some time ago which has made her distrustful while still hopelessly optimistic.
AMANDA: Female, 19, Chinese-American. A young girl in love with fashion living in New York City. The daughter of Chinese parents who moved to America to escape the communist movement in China, she is wistful and relatively carefree. She is understandably anti- communist.
