BANDALOOP, formerly Project Bandaloop, is a vertical dance company based in West Oakland, California. Founded in 1991 by Amelia Rudolph with a small group of dancers and climbers, it performs on the sides of buildings and on cliffs, using climbing technology to create choreography in vertical space. The company says it celebrates the human spirit, nature and communities, and describes itself as a global innovator of vertical artistry emphasizing technical precision and a culture of safety. Over a 35-year history it has activated more than 300 locations worldwide, recently including Pittsburgh, Istanbul and Munich. Melecio Estrella is artistic director, and the organization runs BANDALOOP Studios in Oakland for rentals and creative development.
