About this studio
Dimensions Dance Theater (DDT) is an Oakland, California non-profit whose stated mission is to create, perform and teach dance reflecting the historical experiences and contemporary life of the African Diaspora through an African American lens. Under co-founder and artistic director Deborah Vaughan it presents traditional dances alongside contemporary choreography drawn from African, jazz and modern idioms, and has toured to Nigeria, Jordan, Germany, Zimbabwe and Cuba. Alongside its repertory it sponsors weekly community classes at the Malonga Casquelourd Center for the Arts - Rumba, Afro-Cuban, and Guinea and Senegalese West African dance, open to all ages and paid per class - plus youth programs including Rites of Passage and Dimensions Extensions, internships and school residencies.
