About this studio
Shawl-Anderson Dance Center (SADC) has served the East Bay since 1958 and describes itself as a home for dance welcoming movers of all ages, backgrounds and levels. Alongside its youth, teen and adult class programs it supports local artists, rents rehearsal and performance space and partners with community organizations, producing events such as the Queering Dance Festival and the Dance Up Close series. Dance with Me classes let caregivers dance alongside walking toddlers up to age 5, Creative Movement serves ages 3 to 7, and students 8 and up choose from Hip Hop, Ballet, Modern, Contemporary and Jazz at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels. The center is explicitly non-competitive, offers need-based partial scholarships and payment plans, and runs paid trial classes for youth students during the first weeks of each semester.
