About this studio
The Institute of Contemporary Dance is a community dance space at 1302 Houston Ave in Houston, founded by Marlana Doyle and affiliated with the professional company Houston Contemporary. It runs three streams: Young Movers for ages 2.5 to 10, beginning with imaginative movement for the youngest and progressing to ballet/jazz/tap combo classes and separate ballet, jazz, modern, tap, hip hop and contemporary classes; the PATH program for ages 11 to 18, from beginner to pre-professional, which adds theatre jazz and pre-pointe and pointe; and adult drop-in classes for ages 16 and up at levels from beginner to professional. The Institute charges a single yearly membership or monthly tuition with no separate registration, showcase or costume fees, and has a teaching staff of around 27.
