AXIS Dance Company, founded in 1987 and based in Oakland, California, is a physically integrated ensemble of disabled, non-disabled, d/Deaf and neurodiverse performers that tours nationally and presents a home season, most recently Patterns. Alongside its touring repertory and Choreo-Lab choreographic program, AXIS has run engagement programs, classes and workshops since 1989 in response to community demand for integrated dance. Classes are offered both online and in person and are open to disabled and non-disabled dancers, with many open to all levels of experience; the company describes itself as a primary pre-professional training ground for aspiring dancers with disabilities.
