About this studio
Alexia is a professional belly dancer, teacher, choreographer and event producer based in Knoxville, Tennessee, who performs internationally and advocates for Middle Eastern dance. Her interest in dance began as a teenager with jazz and modern, and she teaches all levels of belly dance as well as lyrical classes. She holds that a teacher is responsible for conveying the culture behind the dance and its music as much as the movements, and has travelled to Cairo, Istanbul, Morocco, Tunisia and Greece to study the cultural background of Oriental dance. She also runs Alexia Productions, a company formed to produce Middle Eastern dance shows and to sponsor Egyptian dance artists for workshops and continuing education, and directs a performing troupe, the Alexandria Dancers, who are available for events.
