I'm going to use a few words to describe Gary Floyd that probably have never used before in print:  Courageous.  Heroic. Valiant. On Friday, November 3, Mr. Floyd played a special show at the Stone Street Theatre in downtown Dallas as part of the Squeaky Wheel World-Wide Tour. This Tour was organized by GINA for Missing Persons, an organization devoted to increased awareness of people who have disappeared.  The tour lasts for 19 days and concluded with an event in Little Rock on November 4.

Mr. Floyd's performance at Stone Street Theatre was incandescent.  He has a ready smile and easy charm that radiates out into the audience.  His singing voice is strong, clear and pure. When he plays the piano, it is with love and tender care and the instrument responds in kind to produce beautiful melodious notes. Watching Mr. Floyd perform is to experience total ecstasy.

The songs he performed came from a variety of genres—Country and Western, Adult Contemporary, and Gospel--some of which he had penned himself.  He also performed more traditional numbers such as the plaintive "Good Thing Going" from the Stephen Sondheim musical Merrily We Roll Along and "Moonlight Becomes You," the Burke-Van Heusen standard first introduced by Bing Crosby.  After delivering a stirring request to help find missing people, he concluded with the uplifting "Brave."

The songs flowed easily from one to the next.  Mr. Floyd introduced each one with a glowing countenance that put the audience at ease.  His jokes about his career were genuinely funny and increased the bond between him and his listeners.  Able backup was provided by musicians Peggy Honea and Jamie Reyes.

If you have only experienced Gary Floyd in musical theatre, you owe it to yourself to experience his vocal and musical skills in a more intimate setting. You will be engrossed by the type of performance only he can give.  A list of his future events can be found at his website.

Stone Street Theatre puts on cabaret shows every weekend.  For more information, visit their website.
