DTC Will Welcome First Female as 'Scrooge' in A CHRISTMAS CAROL This Season

Dallas Theater Center's hit production of the holiday classic A Christmas Carol returns to the Dee and Charles Wyly Theatre.

DTC's Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company member Sally Nystuen Vahle (Medea, Clybourne Park) will be DTC's first female to play Ebenezer Scrooge in the classic tale that follows a magical journey of hope and redemption.

A Christmas Carol begins on Wednesday, Nov. 23 with a Pay-What-You-Can performance and runs through Wednesday, Dec. 28. Press Night will be Wednesday, Nov. 30 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets to A Christmas Carol are on sale now at www.DallasTheaterCenter.org and by phone at (214) 880-0202.

"This year's production of A Christmas Carol is the classic story we all know and love; the story of Ebenezer Scrooge, a human being fallen from grace, who rediscovers humanity, tolerance and our collective responsibility to our fellow man and woman," said Director Steven Michael Walters. "But this year, Sally Nystuen Vahle - who I believe is one of the greatest actors working in the American Theater today - will play cranky, old Scrooge. And I promise you, she will not disappoint. Given the times we live in, watching a woman in a position of power find redemption is every bit as palpable as the more traditional route; and it's every bit as true to the essence of what A Christmas Carol is all about."

Joining Vahle in the cast are Diane and Hal Brierley Resident Acting Company members Adam A. Anderson (All the Way, King Lear) as Beau/Undertaker's Man; Chamblee Ferguson (Deferred Action, All the Way, A Christmas Carol 2015) as Mr. Fezziwig/Mr. Dilber; Tiana Kaye Johnson (Dreamgirls, The Mountaintop, The Book Club Play) as Ghost of Christmas Past; Liz Mikel (Bella: An American Tall Tale, Romeo and Juliet, A Christmas Carol 2015) as Ghost of Christmas Present/Mrs. Fezziwig and Alex Organ (Constellations, Dreamgirls, All the Way) as Bob Cratchit. Additional cast members include Cameron Cobb (A Christmas Carol 2015) as Topper/Old Joe; Joseph Holt as Second Gentleman/Musician; Lydia Mackay (A Christmas Carol 2015) as Marley/Young Marley and Gabrielle Reyes (Bella: An American Tall Tale, Dreamgirls) as Young Scrooge/Lucy.

Southern Methodist University students in the cast are Cory Kosel as First Gentleman, Ta'Ron Middleton as Lucy's Husband, Christine Sanders as Mrs. Cratchit and Jo-Jo Steine as Silly Sister. Members of the youth ensemble include Ross Adkins as Factory Child/Ignorance and Want, Christena Adkins as Fan, Georgia Rose Bell as Tiny Tim, Mason Bowling as Peter, Dustyn Carter as Turkey Boy, Te'a Casas as Martha Cratchit, Abigail Kathleen Chapman as Girl Scrooge, Quincy Cobb as Factory Child/Ignorance and Want, Olivia Darnall as Fan, Nina Ruby Gameros as Tiny Tim, Ria Marsh as Martha Cratchit, Qaadir Muhammad as Turkey Boy, Sydney Noelle Pitts as Belinda Cratchit, Aria Puri as Factory Child/Ignorance and Want, Landon Robinson as Peter, Isabella Saucer Ehring as Girl Scrooge, Aidan Singh as Factory Child/Ignorance and Want and Madison Michelle Verre as Belinda Cratchit.

Once again, this production will take full advantage of the Wyly Theatre's flexible environment, placing the audience in the center of the magic with the action happening all around them. Tony Award winning set designer Beowulf Boritt (All The Way, Tempest, A Midsummer Night's Dream) brings the vibrant world of the play to life. Jennifer Caprio (All The Way, Colossal, The School for Wives) returns to DTC bringing her fresh interpretations of traditional Victorian costume designs. Also returning to DTC is Tony Award winner Jeff Croiter (Colossal, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor® Dreamcoat, Arsenic and Old Lace) as lighting designer; Broken Chord (Deferred Action, All the Way, A Christmas Carol 2015) as Sound Designer; Valerie Gladstone (A Christmas Carol 2015) as wig designer and Jeremy Allen Dumont as choreographer.

DTC is continuing the partnership with North Texas Food Bank (NTFB) for the ninth consecutive year. During performances of A Christmas Carol, DTC will provide a location in the Wyly lobby for patrons to donate canned goods to NTFB. Members of the cast will also collect monetary donations after every performance. Last year, DTC presented more than $138,000 to NTFB, providing more than 414,000 meals for those in need across North Texas.

DTC's Come Early sponsored by Wells Fargo will take place one hour before every performance and DTC's Stay Late will take place after each performance.
