WHAT:At two October shows, critically-acclaimed Chicagoland singer, songwriter and keyboardist Denise La Grassa will perform selections from her forthcoming album The Flame, which honors Lady Liberty, the mother of immigrants, who offers compassion, hope and opportunity. The blues-infused song-stories explore the joys and struggles for past and present immigrants to America. The music is inspired by Patricia McGuigan, an immigrant with roots in Scotland, and John Kregor will accompany on guitar. The October 3 performance features La Grassas ongoing collaboration with artist Cheryl Sholo Beverly, who paints during the concert. The show will benefit the Jackie Sabath Exhibition Fund that supports the challenging and sometimes controversial gallery exhibits at the North Shores nonprofit Art Center. The $10 ticket includes a beer and wine bar and access to Henri Daumans French photography exhibit, which captures important American events and people from the 50s, 60s and 70s. Attendees should bring their own seating for the lawn show. October 8 concert attendees are required to wear masks when not eating or drinking, and show vaccination proof or a negative COVID test for admission.
