Opera Arlington presents Georges Bizet's Carmen, reimagined in the vibrant atmosphere of 1920s Spain during the euphoric aftermath of the Spanish national soccer team's historic Olympic medal victory. In this production, Escamillo is not a bullfighter but a celebrated star footballer, while Carmen is portrayed as a spirited itinerant Romani worker whose doomed love affair with the tradition-bound soldier Don José drives the story. The production is directed by Eliza Escalante and performed with the Mansfield Philharmonic conducted by Dr. Eldred Marshall. The approximate run time is 2 hours and 40 minutes with a 20-minute intermission.
