PARADE, HAIRSPRAY & More Set for SU Drama's 2014-15 Season

Syracuse University's Department of Drama (SU Drama) in the College of Visual and Performing Arts is pleased to announce its 2014-15 season. Offerings will include the passionate and powerful musical Parade with music by Jason Robert Brown, the comic Stepping Out about the friendships and joy found in an adult tap class, the 60s era hit musical Hairspray (co-produced with Syracuse Stage), two couples grappling with relationships in the witty comedy Lips Together, Teeth Apart, William Shakespeare's profound comedy Measure for Measure, and the laugh-out-loud Tony Award-winning musical Avenue Q. Season Tickets are $89/$99 for six shows, now available in the Box Office at 315-443-3275 or in person Mon-Fri, 10 a.m. - 5 p.m. at 820 East Genesee Street.

Redhouse Hosts 2014 Corporate Battle of the Bands Today

After last year's success, Redhouse is excited to announce the second 'Rockin' the Redhouse' event for today, April 25th at the Landmark Theater.

Hangar Hands Out Distinguished Awards at Annual Meeting

The Hangar Theatre celebrated their accomplishments of 2013 at their annual meeting on Monday, April 7th where one business organization and three community members were recognized as substantially impacting the artistic integrity and financial health of the Center for Performing Arts. Board members, staff, volunteers, and community members all gathered to celebrate the continual success of the Hangar and the positive impact of those who so generously contribute their time and resources to the Hangar Theatre.

Chautauqua Theater Company (CTC), under the leadership of Vivienne Benesch Artistic Director and Sarah Clare Corporandy Managing Director, has announced programming for its 2014 season featuring Lorraine Hansberry's classic A Raisin in the Sun, directed by Ethan McSweeny (June 28-July 6), The May Queen, a world premiere by Molly Smith Metzler (July 18-27), directed by Vivienne Benesch, and Shakespeare's The Tempest (August 8-15), starring Lisa Harrow, directed by Jade King Carroll on the Bratton Theater Mainstage.

On April 27, 2014, the Skidmore College Orchestra will present the world premiere of Double Concerto for Clarinet and Guitar, composed by the internationally acclaimed guitarist James Emery for his daughter Hannah and featuring the two of them, respectively, as the guitar and clarinet soloists. This concert will mark their public debut playing together in an orchestral setting.

Artists in every genre from all over the world have only 10 days left to submit their shows to venues for the 2014 First Niagara Rochester Fringe Festival (Thursday, September 18 - Saturday, September 27). The application process began February 19, 2014 and will close on Wednesday, April 16 at midnight.

The Hangar Theatre is happy to announce a fantastic lineup of accomplished directors and designers for its 40th Anniversary Mainstage season. While some of these artists are returning to the Hangar from past production favorites, others, including new Artistic Director Jen Waldman, will be making their Hangar debut. The roster includes many talented artists with local ties to Ithaca, including Ithaca College and Cornell University alumni.

Syracuse Stage Gala with Jesse Cook Set for 6/7

The 2014 Syracuse Stage Gala, an annual fundraiser presented by the Syracuse Stage Board of Trustees and the Syracuse Stage Guild, will take place on Saturday, June 7 at the Schine Student Center on the Syracuse University campus. The event will include a performance by Jesse Cook and his band, incorporating elements of flamenco rumba, jazz, and many forms of world music. The Glass Menagerie is the play that launched Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Tennessee Williams' career and is among the masterworks of the American stage. Drawn from Williams' life, this moving play explores the illusory nature of dreams and the fragility of hope. Abandoned by the father of her children, Amanda is obsessed with finding a suitor for her shy and vulnerable daughter, Laura. Tom, the restless and sensitive son who narrates the story, eases his frustrations with nighttime escapes 'to the movies.' At Amanda's urgings, Tom asks a co-worker to dinner. Can this 'gentleman caller' offer any light to these bruised souls clinging to the tattered edges of lost dreams and faded hopes?
Syracuse Stage Announces 2014/15 Season

Syracuse Stage is pleased to announce the 2014/15 Season, featuring recent Broadway hits, award-winning shows, celebrated playwrights, and an international exchange. Kicking things off in September is the raucous comedy and 2013 Tony winner for Best Play, Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, followed by the haunting and haunted The Piano Lesson, August Wilson's Pulitzer Prize-winning drama. The holiday season will bring 60s era music and dance in the smash hit musical Hairspray, and 2015 will begin with In the Next Room, or the Vibrator Play, a highly original seriocomedy about a particular medical treatment of the late 1800s. Nearing the end of the season, Stage will partner with South Africa's internationally acclaimed Market Theatre on the Tony Award-winning classic, Sizwe Banzi is Dead, and closing the season is Other Desert Cities, a sharp and smartly funny new play mixing politics and art.

Take a trip back to the 1970's with Blackfriars Theatre's production of Lanford Wilson's comedy-drama, The Hot L Baltimore. The Hotel Baltimore used to be the most luxurious place in town. Not anymore. It's lost the 'e' in its marquee sign and eviction notices just went out to its residents, a plethora of society's outcast inhabitants, who call the seedy hotel home. With the structure as dilapidated as its residents, this play is a moving and humorous look at everyday humanity and the ties that bind.
