Kitchen Theatre Company continues its 2017-2018 Season with the regional premiere of Ironbound by Martyna Majok, a gritty, honest, and at times humorous look at an immigrant experience in America. Performances of Ironbound begin at the Kitchen Theatre Company in The Percy Browning Performance Space on January 21 and run through February 4.

Applications Open For Musical Theatre Writers At Rhinebeck Writers Retreat

Kathy Evans, Founding Executive Director of Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, announced applications are open for this summer. Nine musical theatre writing teams will be hosted for 9 consecutive weeklong residencies in the Hudson Valley between July 2 and September 3. All writers are eligible and their musical can be at any stage of development, as long as it has not been published or licensed. Selected writers pay nothing to participate and receive a $500 stipend. All costs are covered by donations to Rhinebeck Writers Retreat, including travel up to $750.  Writers with children are welcomed to apply and Rhinebeck Writers Retreat will accommodate their housing needs. There is no fee for applications received by February 16 and there is a fee of $20 for the final deadline of February 23.  All information, guidelines, and online application can be found at www.rhinebeckwriters.org.

Guillermo Galindo Exhibition Comes to The Tang Museum In February 2018

Opening February 17, 2018, the Tang Teaching Museum at Skidmore College will present works by experimental composer and multi-media artist Guillermo Galindo in Along the Border. Exploring the relationship between Mexico and the United States, the exhibition will include Galindo's cybertotemic sonic objects crafted from discarded items found at multiple sites along the 2000-mile national border between the two countries and his Flags series, graphic scores printed onto weathered flags found at the border and originally used to indicate the presence of water tanks stationed in the Calexico desert. These works reveal the human impact of the evolving economic, social, and political relationships between the two nations over the past several years.

Infuriated not to have received an invitation to the Royal Christening, the evil fairy, Trollarina, exacts her revenge on the Royal Family and her sister fairies by casting a spell on Princess Melisande. Sixteen years later, the Princess is sent into a decade-long sleep after pricking her finger on the spindle of a spinning wheel. Little does Trollarina realize that more than one spell is about to be broken, thanks to the kiss of an amnestic, enchanted Faun. This is theatre for young audiences at its best. Great fun for the whole family!

Hoff-Barthelson Music School's new Great Composers Lecture Series for music aficionados begins Thursday, February 15, 2018, at 7:30 pm with Leonard Bernstein at 100: Beyond West Side Story, and is followed by Ludwig van Beethoven: Madman? Genius? Both? on Friday, March 16, 2018, at 11:00 am. Both lectures will be presented by Copland House Artistic Director Michael Boriskin and take place at the School's Behrens Bergman Auditorium, 25 School Lane, Scarsdale. Admission is $25 for one lecture; $40 for both. HBMS students may attend free of charge. Space is limited; reservations are strongly encouraged.

Cortland Repertory Theatre is announcing a full line-up of shows and events for the winter and spring at their downtown performing arts facility, located at 24 Port Watson Street in historic downtown Cortland. Admission prices vary per event. Starting in January, a series of monthly TRIVIA NIGHTS are planned for the third Today of the first four months of the year. At 7:00 PM on January 18, February 15, March 15 and April 19, trivia buffs in teams of up to 4 people will be challenged to six rounds of five questions in a wide range of topics. This fund raiser for the CRT Youth Programs encourages friendly competition between families, friends and businesses, with prizes for each round and one evening Grand Prize, including CRT tickets. Admission is $5.00 per person and a beer/wine cash bar will be available.
