Universal Pictures has acquired the film rights to ten classic Atari games, including ASTEROIDS and PONG, working with Atari and Entertainment 360 on the deal. An adventure film based on a spec script by Matt Reilly and Carl Hampe is already in development at the studio. The acquisition is among several IP deals and industry moves detailed in a new entertainment business roundup covering companies including Rebelle Media, MGM Television, and Greek broadcaster ERT.

Rebelle Media & MGM Adapt 'When in Rome'

Rebelle Media and MGM Television have acquired the screen rights to adapt Sarah Adams' popular romantic book series When in Rome. Set in the fictional small town of Rome, Kentucky, the multi-book franchise begins with the story of a burnt-out pop star who finds unexpected romance with a local baker after her car breaks down.

ERT Commissions Local 'Schiller Street'

Greek public broadcaster ERT has commissioned a 40-episode local adaptation of the improvised comedy format Schiller Street. Produced for international distribution by Seven. One Studios International, the revived classic comedy show has also been optioned by Banijay for the Italian market.

Elsewhere in the roundup, Rebelle Media and MGM Television have acquired screen rights to Sarah Adams' romance novel series WHEN IN ROME, centered on a fictional Kentucky town, while ERT in Greece has commissioned a 40-episode local version of the comedy format SCHILLER STREET, which is also being adapted for the Italian market through Banijay.
