The fourth season of the series is currently in production and is slated to return to HBO later this year.
On Tuesday, June 2, HBO Max hosted a "Sketch to Screen” FYC event at the Audrey Irmas Pavilion in Los Angeles to showcase the costume designers of several original titles, including The Gilded Age's Kasia Walicka Maimone.
As part of the event, Maimone joined fellow costume designers Tom Broecker (The Comeback), Molly Maginnis (DTF St. Louis), Natasha Newman-Thomas (Euphoria), Kathleen Felix-Hager (Hacks), Carole Millar (Half Man), Laura Smith (Industry), Luis M. Sequeira (IT: Welcome To Derry), Lorna Ó Ríordáin (A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms), and Meghan Kasperlik (Task) for a panel conversation moderated by Variety’s Senior Artisan Editor, Jazz Tangcay.
Maimone discussed the immense worldbuilding involved in the series, describing how the jewelry in The Gilded Age serves as a manifestation of wealth and power, and revealing that the series creates nearly 5,000 costume pieces each season.
Following the panel discussion, guests gathered for a reception, where costumes from the 11 HBO television series were displayed throughout the venue, allowing guests to view the design work up close. Take a look below at two costumes from The Gilded Age on display at the event.
The Gilded Age is a period drama set in 1880s-era New York from Downton Abbey creator Julian Fellowes. The series has become a favorite among theater and Broadway buffs with its star-studded cast of stage alums, including Carrie Coon, Christine Baranski, Cynthia Nixon, Morgan Spector, and Denée Benton, among many others. The fourth season of the series is currently in production and is slated to return to HBO later this year.
