Crime and Intrigue Coming to Thirteen's REEL 13 This April

Crime, mysteries, and intrigue on REEL 13 in April on THIRTEEN. Several major indie actresses shine in strong performances throughout the month

Peter Cushing stars as super sleuth Sherlock Holmes in The Hound of Baskervilles (1959), the first film to be based on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's literary character that was made in color, while, James Stewart plays a reporter doing his own detective work as he investigates the murder of a Chicago policeman in a speakeasy in the film noir Call Northside 777 (1948).
The two films air April 6 and April 13 respectively on April's Reel 13 Classics, in a month full of suspenseful films. Gabriel Byrne and his friends happen across the body of a young aboriginal girl on a fishing trip in Australia which causes unwanted consequences in Jindabyne (2006), adapted from Raymond Carver's short story "So Much Water So Close to Home," on Reel 13 Indie

Acclaimed indie film actresses Greta Gerwig, Laura Linney, Sally Hawkins, and Catherine Keener lead stellar ensemble casts in April's Reel 13 Indie selections: Baghead, Jindabyne, Made in Dagenham, and Please Give.

Every Saturday night beginning at 9 p.m., viewers can catch a Classic hosted by film historian Neal Gabler, followed by an Indie, hosted by Richard Peña. The evening concludes with a Short selected by visitors to Reel13.org who vote for their favorite of three shorts every week.

A Chicago newsman (James Stewart) digs up the story of a scrubwoman's son who has been framed for murder. With James Stewart, Richard Conte, and Lee J. Cobb.

"Jindabyne" (2006) Dir: Ray Lawrence
The life of an Irishman living in Australia is severely shaken by his discovery of a murdered girl during a fishing trip. With Laura Linney, Gabriel Byrne, and John Howard.

"Shake Hands With the Devil" (1959) Dir: Michael Anderson
A medical professor (James Cagney) recruits a U.S. student for the Irish Republican Army in 1921 Dublin. With James Cagney, Don Murray, and Dana Wynter.

"Made in Dagenham" (2010)Dir: Nigel Cole
The story of a 1968 Ford strike, where female workers walked out in protest against sexual discrimination. With Sally Hawkins, Bob Hoskins, and Andrea Riseborough.

"Four Weddings and a Funeral" (1994) Dir: Mike Newell
A charming Englishman (Hugh Grant) and an American beauty (Andie MacDowell) repeatedly run into each other at weddings. With Hugh Grant, Andie MacDowell, and James Fleet.

"Please Give" (2010) Dir: Nicole Holofcener
The granddaughters of an elderly woman clash with her landlord. With Catherine Keener, Oliver Platt, and Rebecca Hall.
