On the brink of a mental breakdown, Cyrus gets his swagger back, but which Grant will he choose to please? Mellie, Fitz and Olivia have to turn to friends they've done wrong to help them through the crisis du jour in this week's all new SCANDAL.

As the Senate Committee officially begins their investigation into the President's affair with Olivia, David Rosen (Joshua Malina sighting) advises Fitz to hire a lawyer. He recommends Patty Snell, a real ballbuster who takes charge immediately and annoys the crap out of Liz and Abby. The committee bullies Mellie to recuse herself as it will be a conflict of interest for her as well as a distraction for the hearing. The Committee's lead bully, Senator Gibson, approaches Marcus and blackmails him into helping them gain evidence against Fitz.

At Pope and Associates, Olivia mounts her own defense team by bringing in Leo, as a freelancer, to help them spin their image. His tact is to make Olivia an everyday woman of the people which seems to work, until Mellie leaks to the Press that Fitz gave Olivia a diamond ring. Next plan of attack, have Olivia's ex, Edison, give an interview as a character witness for her and have Olivia give an exclusive interview with Noah Baker about her deep love for the President.

Quinn and Huck decide to do a little investigating of their own and Marcus decides to become a double agent and find out what the Committee has on Olivia. Turns out, they found out about the West Angola tape and if the press gets a hold of that, they're all screwed. David Rosen (Joshua Malina sighting!) tells Liv that as long as no one corroborates the story that the President was on the brink of war in order to save Olivia, they are safe. There is only one person who can do that.

Cyrus is watching the whole thing unfold like it's a reality show (which it basically is). A distraught Mellie joins him for a drink or six. She offers him a job to work with her, but he is summoned to the White House. Fitz offers him a job as Senior Advisor, but Cyrus sees right through it. And in yet another impressive Jeff Perry monologue, he bitches out the President telling him that he does everything for him and Fitz doesn't even remember anything about Cyrus' life. Fitz proves him wrong with a monologue of his own ending in a genuine apology. Cyrus agrees to come back with a list of demands including his old position as Chief of Staff and getting rid of Liz once and for all. Fitz agrees and summons Liz.

Even though this was all important information for the continuation of the story, this episode is way slower than SCANDAL has been in a while. Sure, Olivia finally learned that Jake has a wife and actually has a life outside of her drama. And sure, we see proof that Cyrus is actually still married to Michael and they may have a functional marriage. And sure, we saw that Marcus is nestling in quite comfortably with Huck and Quinn. But besides the two glorious, albeit short as usual, David Rosen sightings, it was all a lot of fluff. What comes next is what is interesting. We will see the Committee's reaction to Cyrus alibi and Liz's reaction to Cyrus' victory and Mellie's reaction to Cyrus' betrayl... basically we're going to see the results of everything Cyrus. But I, for one, would really like to move on from all that and get back to some P&A cases. Marcus is a great addition to the crew there and yet they're barely used. Are we really just going to focus on the President's relationship all season? Cyrus and Mellie are still the two most compelling people to watch and I would rather get back to Lazarus. The damn Louvre burned down and nobody talked about it this week. More Rowan, more P&A, more shirtless Jake and for God's sake, MORE DAVID ROSEN!!!
