BWW Review: ABT's DON QUIXOTE Fires Up The 2017 Spring Season

It takes the perfect spark to light a match, and on Thursday May 18, 2017, that spark was Soloist Christine Shevchenko. Replacing a temporarily injured Gillian Murphy, her rendition of Kitri was the cherry on top of the already delicious sundae that is Petipa's 'Don Quixote,' presented during the company's first week of spring performances at their Metropolitan Opera House residency. The ability to adapt, adjust, and make something your own is a rare gift that so often gets taken for granted. But it's exactly that nuance that let Shevchenko - and the entire production - shine like the brightest star in the sky.

Margo Dean, founder and artistic director of Ballet Concerto Inc., a Fort Worth institution that has presented an annual free-to-the-public, fully-staged professional dance production each June since 1981, has announced that the company's SUMMER DANCE CONCERT performances will move from Trinity Park to The Heart of the Ranch at Clearfork adjacent to the Trinity River and a part of the Clearfork Developments in near Southwest Fort Worth.

Karen Kain, Artistic Director of The National Ballet of Canada, and Kevin O'Hare, Director of The Royal Ballet, today announced that the two companies will collaborate in a unique performance of Robert Binet's The Dreamers Ever Leave You in celebration of the 150th anniversary of Canadian Confederation. Receiving its UK premiere, the ballet will be performed by dancers from both companies in the vast industrial space of The Printworks, Canada Water in London from Thursday, October 12 to Friday, October 13, 2017.

Curated by Juan Michael Porter II, THE SERIES 2017 presents a versatile range of artistically provocative choreographers in contrasting programs of dance.  At each performance, one or two of the 12 guest companies will share the program with Michael Mao Dance in a set of works that run the gamut from social dance to jazz to contemporary ballet to abstract pieces marked by their German Expressionistic values. The common thread running through each company featured in THE SERIES  is the use of spectacular physical virtuosity to communicate fantastic ideas, June 6-11 at the Hudson Guild Theatre, 441 West 26th Street.

Executive Artistic Director Maurice Brandon Curry has announced details for the Eglevsky Ballet's Annual Student Workshop Performance to be held at The Olmstead Theater at Adelphi University on June 8 at 6:30 p.m. This year's Student Workshop will include world premiere works choreographed by Patrick Frenette, Christopher Huggins and Morgan McEwen.  The event will also feature works choreographed by members of the Eglevsky Ballet Academy resident faculty.

ASTAD DEBOO Releases Live Dance Performance on Streaming Service CENNARIUM

Audiences across the country and around the world will for the first time be able to stream a complete live performance of the legendary Astad Deboo, considered one of the pre-eminent figures in contemporary dance in India, when his classic performance “Eternal Embrace” is released on performing arts streaming service Cennarium May 29. The release will follow Deboo's live performances at the LaMaMa Moves! Dance Festival in New York May 25-26.

Choreographer Miro Magloire's New Chamber Ballet will bring its 2016-17 series to an end with performances June 10 at 8 PM and June 11 at 7 PM, and a Magloire premiere to John Cage's 'Cheap Imitation' for violin.   The Company welcomes dancer Kristine Butler, who previously danced with the Charlotte Ballet II, Romanian National Ballet, and San Francisco Ballet.

Kiehl's Since 1851 and Art Production Fund are pleased to present Jeff Koons's Seated Ballerina, a large-scale public art installation, hosted by Tishman Speyer at Rockefeller Center from May 12 June 2, 2017. The inflatable nylon sculpture stands 45 feet high and depicts a seated ballerina from the artist's iconic Antiquity series.

This summer, SF Ballet will return to Festival Napa Valley for one performance only on Friday, July 21, 2017, accompanied by members of the SF Ballet Orchestra. LA Photographer Martin Cox Opens Solo Show Amidst Iceland's Growing Art Scene

This summer, Los Angeles-based, UK-born photographer Martin Cox will open an ambitious solo exhibition, Far Away Right Here at the Husavik Museum in Iceland. Many of the photographs that will be on exhibit stem from Cox's month-long residency at the Fjuk Art Center in Husavik Iceland in 2016. While in residence in Husavik, Cox explored the climate and created a series of images that were inspired by the landscape and history of Husavik.
