Odyssey Opera Performs Rare Gilbert & Sullivan Work 6/2-3

Described as “one of the East Coast's most exciting and best opera companies (The Arts Fuse),” Odyssey Opera completes its Wilde Opera Nights series, a season-long exploration of operatic works inspired by the writings and world of Oscar Wilde. For two nights, Odyssey Opera presents a fully-staged performance of Arthur Sullivan and W.S. Gilbert's early hit, Patience; or, Bunthorne's Bride (1881). Inspired by the aesthetes of Victorian England of the late 1800s, this two-act comic opera delves into the world that Wilde skewered with his pen. Directed by Frank Kelley, with conductor Gil Rose and full orchestra and chorus, Patience welcomes back several Odyssey Opera alumni to the stage including Aaron Engrebreth (baritone) as Reginald Bunthorne and Sara Heaton (soprano) as Patience. 
Pacific Symphony Cuts Ribbon on New Offices in Irvine

Trumpets played, flags were raised and a giant ribbon was cut to unveil the new Pacific Symphony administrative headquarters in the City of Irvine yesterday. Symphony President John Forsyte revealed the Board of Directors' support in naming the building the Charlie and Ling Zhang Musical Arts & Education Center, to honor the man whose vision and generosity made the move possible.

Mr. Fennelly will perform the famed concerto which Beethoven himself premiered in 1808 in in lieu of Italian pianist Cristiana Pegoraro, who is indisposed.

While the smallest citizens of Orange County might have a difficult time telling you exactly why, they love music and dancing too! And on their behalf, Pacific Symphony and Orange County Music and Dance (OCMD) have teamed up to give babies and toddlers a jumpstart on their own development as well as their love of the arts with two unique programs—one specially designed for babies, the other for toddlers—called “Parent and Me: Music and Movement.” Parents and their youngsters are invited to take part in a series of innovative workshops with teaching artist Maria Simeone and Pacific Symphony violinist MarlaJoy Weisshaar that will have parent and child dancing, singing and moving together through brain-based learning activities!
Las Vegas Philharmonic 2016-17 Performances to Air on NPR

The Las Vegas Philharmonic has partnered with  Nevada Public Radio for the second year to broadcast performances from its current 2016-17 season on Classical 89.7 FM Sundays at 2pm, starting June 4. Each broadcast will be 90 minutes to two hours in length and will include conversation with Music Director, Donato Cabrera and Nevada Public Radio's Dave Becker as well as full length performances by your symphony orchestra.  The programs featured on air will include the following Las Vegas Philharmonic concerts:

Associate Conductor Rei Hotoda Leads Youth Musicians, Violinist Karen Ferry, and the Utah Symphony in an ALL-STAR EVENING

On May 23 at 7 PM, Associate Conductor Rei Hotoda leads the Utah Symphony, 16-year-old guest violinist Karen Ferry, and musicians selected from ten area youth orchestras who will play side by side with Utah Symphony musicians in the annual “All-Star Evening” concert. The night will include Smetana's Overture to “The Bartered Bride,” Dvo?ák's “Violin Concerto,” Robert Haas' arrangement of the Scherzo from Bruckner's “Symphony No. 7,” Martin Schmeling's arrangement of Brahms' “Hungarian Dances No. 5,” and Sibelius' “Finlandia.”  Tickets are $12 and can be purchased at www.utahsymphony.org or by calling (801) 533-6683.
Roger Kalia Renewal Contract with Pacific Symphony Press Release

Pacific Symphony has extended the contract of its assistant conductor, Roger Kalia, for two additional years, providing for him to continue in his current role through June 2019. It's been two years since the Symphony first announced Kalia as its second in command (under Music Director Carl St.Clair), with his position beginning at the start of the 2015-16 season. In addition to assisting St.Clair with conducting duties, Kalia has played—and will continue to play—a vital role in the Symphony's education initiatives. These include programming and conducting the Farmers & Merchants Bank Family Musical Mornings series, which introduces children ages 5-11 (and beyond) to the exciting world of orchestral music through engaging and educational concerts.

Yolanda Kondonassis Performs Premieres of Jennifer Higdon Concerto for Harp and Orchestra

Grammy-nominated harpist Yolanda Kondonassis announces the premiere performance series of Grammy and Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Jennifer Higdon's Concerto for Harp and Orchestra, written for and to be premiered by Kondonassis with The Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra under the direction of Ward Stare in May 2018. The premiere series of performances will continue with Yolanda Kondonassis as soloist throughout 2018 and 2019 with consortium members the Harrisburg Symphony, Oklahoma City Philharmonic, Lansing Symphony, Fargo-Moorhead Symphony Orchestra, and Baton Rouge Symphony. The consortium was designed to bring the work to both large and small communities in a variety of geographic regions.
