Gary Karton Launches Contest for Reader to Become Book Character by BWW News Desk
- October 31, 2014 Kids are always asking children's book author Gary Karton, 'Can my name be in the next book?' This holiday season, one lucky reader (or the reader's family member) will finally have his or her chance to be a character in The Rock of Sarraka, the second book in the award-winning Brody Boondoggle trilogy. You can enter by visiting Brodyboondoggle.com and purchasing The Last Akaway, the first book in the series, or a spirit animal necklace. Every purchase from now until December 31, 2014 is another chance to win. One lucky winner will be drawn at random and announced on January 5, 2015. Gary Karton, will contact the winner.
Geared toward a pre-teen audience, the Brody Boondoggle series centers on the adventures of brothers Brody and Jake in their quest to save the Akaway-a rare and magical creature that connects children to their spirit animals and the special powers the animals possess.
Gary came up with the idea for the series after a birthday party he created for his younger son, Brody. He named the books' main characters after his two sons, and now he wants to give his fans and their children a chance to have a character named after them.
'Growing up, my teachers understood how to harness my imagination,' says Gary, 'I want to give that same opportunity to as many kids as possible, and I hope this contest is one way to do so.' Richard Lena, Founder and Publisher of Brattle Publishing Group, Gary's publisher, added, 'We want to create innovative 'edutainment' products that instruct, and motivate a life long love of literature. Gary understands our goal and has done a great creating books that inspire love of literature.'
Gary has spent the past 17 years working for children and families at nonprofits such as the Welfare to Work Partnership, the Elizabeth Glaser Pediatric AIDS Foundation, and Safe Kids Worldwide. He is a contributor to the Huffington Post, and the co-author of No Free Lunch: One Man's Journey from Welfare to the American Dream.
