Christian Picciolini Launches ROMANTIC VIOLENCE Memoir by BWW News Desk
- March 09, 2016 Today, Goldmill Group is pleased to announce that the acclaimed memoir, Romantic Violence: Memoirs of an American Skinhead, by Chicago author Christian Picciolini, has been recognized as a finalist in the 18th annual Foreword Reviews' INDIEFAB Book of the Year Awards. Here is the complete list:
https://indiefab.forewordreviews.com/finalists/2015/
Each year, Foreword Reviews shines a light on a select group of indie publishers, university presses, and self-published authors whose work stands out from the crowd. In the next three months, a panel of more than 100 volunteer librarians and booksellers will determine the winners in 63 categories based on their experience with readers and patrons.
'The 2015 INDIEFAB finalist selection process is as inspiring as it is rigorous,' said Victoria Sutherland, publisher of Foreword Reviews. 'The strength of this list of finalists is further proof that small, independent publishers are taking their rightful place as the new driving force of the entire publishing industry.'
'It's a great honor for my book to be chosen,' said Christian Picciolini, author of Romantic Violence. 'I know it will help me get my book out there to those who might need to learn the same lessons I did.'
Foreword Reviews will celebrate the winners during a program at the American Library Association Annual Conference in Orlando, FL in June. We will also name the Editor's Choice Prize 2015 for Fiction, Nonfiction and Foreword Reviews' 2015 INDIEFAB Publisher of the Year during the program.
About Romantic Violence: At 14 years old, Christian Picciolini, a bright and well-loved kid, had been targeted and trained to spread a violent racist agenda, quickly ascending to a highly visible leadership position in America's first neo-Nazi skinhead gang. Romantic Violence: Memoirs of an American Skinhead is a poignant and gripping cautionary tale that details Christian's indoctrination when he was barely a teen, a lonely outsider who, more than anything, just wanted to belong. From fierce street brawls to drunken white power rallies, recruitment by foreign terrorist dictators to riotous white power rock music, Picciolini immersed himself in racist skinhead culture, hateful propaganda, and violence. Ultimately Christian began to see that his hate-filled life was built on lies. After years of battling the monster he created, he was able to reinvent himself. Picciolini went on to become an advocate for peace, inclusion, and racial diversity, co-founding the nonprofit Life After Hate, which helps people disengage from hate groups and to love themselves and accept others, regardless of skin color, religious belief, or sexual preference. www.romanticviolence.com

Jennifer K. Jordan Reads/Signs DADLY WISDOM, 3/19 by BWW News Desk
- March 09, 2016 On Saturday, March 19 at 3 p.m., Gatsby Books in Long Beach, Calif. will host the book launch of local author Jennifer Karin Jordan's new book, 'DADLY Wisdom: Untold Stories That Represent the True Faces of Fatherhood' (Motivational Press).
Early Review:
'If I were packing a Time Capsule, DADLY Wisdom would be one of the first items I'd put into it. For if the world were to end in fire or ice, it would be nice to show future generations the good that men were once capable of doing.'-Midwest Book Review
About the Book:
'DADLY Wisdom' marks the culmination of a 14-year journey for Jordan who, inspired by her father Russ Jordan, began gathering interviews and essays from fathers around the globe.
'This book transformed my life,' said Jordan. 'I have experienced a deeper appreciation for adoption and foster parenting...yoga and meditation...World War II...the Holocaust...and even healthy eating.'
Jordan's book features insights from a wide variety of dads, including Holocaust survivor, Bernard Sayone, who promised his doomed father that he would live to tell the world and his own children what happened at Auschwitz; John Solheim, the C.E.O. of the family-run Arizona golf equipment manufacturing company PING; Paleo Magazine Editor, Caine Credicott; and Congressman Alan Lowenthal. Two views of the Japanese American World War II experience and how they affected parenting are represented by James Tanaka who was 'interned' at a U.S. 'Relocation Camp,' and Jim Makino who fought with the 'Go for Broke' unit in heroic battles.
Each chapter concludes with an uplifting author suggestion of how to honor the wisdom shared by each dad, such as: 'Today let's be people that others can count on.'
Dads Behaving DADLY Book Series and Events:
'DADLY Wisdom' is associated with author/event organizer Hogan Hilling's 'Dads Behaving DADLY' series, which includes his book, 'Dads Behaving DADLY: 67 Truths, Tears and Triumphs of Modern Fatherhood.' Hilling's personal story as the devoted father of a 'special needs' child was featured on Oprah, and last year he appeared with his DADLY books on the CBS Morning Show.
'The dads' stories in Jordan's book prove responsible, active fatherhood has always been alive and well all over the world,' said Hilling. 'DADLY Wisdom clears the undeserved/unfair stigma our culture created of fathers as inept, irresponsible, and absent parents in the last four decades.'
Hilling will be on hand at the 'DADLY Wisdom' book launch to speak and sign books; and Jennifer K. Jordan will participate in Hilling's DADLY Rally-a celebration of fatherhood slated for July 16.
'I wanted to give a snapshot of fathers' wisdom from across the world,' said Jordan, who dedicates this book 'to all the fathers who forever have blessed my life.'
