14 Year Old to Publish Her First Novel

Reka Kaponay, a 14 year old Australian girl who has been traveling the world full-time for the last four years with her twin brother Lalika, mother Bobi, and father George, and has not attended school since 2009, is about to publish her debut adventure novel 'Dawn of the Guardian' on March 31st 2016. Having traveled to 30 countries on six continents, Reka drew the inspiration for her book from her travels to a small Andalusian town in the South of Spain and started writing the novel when she was just 12 years of age, completing her first draft before she turned 13. Not attending school has not meant that Reka did not apply herself wholly to a journey of learning. Having immersed herself in the cultures and history of the places she visited, resulted in her mastering a second language (Hungarian) and being well on the way to learning to speak a third (Spanish). Writing being her passion however, was first reflected in the creation of her now internationally acclaimed travel blog Dreamtime Traveler www.dreamtimetraveler.com, which has been featured in the Huffington Post, The Daily Mail, on Hungarian National Radio and even on national Australian breakfast television. Facing the challenges of being an unpublished author has not stopped Reka in her endeavours to realise her dreams. In the process of writing and editing her book, she reached out to over 200 agents, publishing imprints and authors to seek their guidance and feedback. Amy Crowe's Children's Book Earns Dog Ear Publishing Award of Literary Excellence

JJ, a young boy who doesn't like following the rules, stars in a new children's book that has earned the Dog Ear Publishing Award of Literary Excellence. 'Changed by a Catch,' written by Amy Crowe, offers a lesson about obedience, a concept that helps children show respect and safety when they encounter authority figures such as teachers, coaches, principals, police officers and even - once they grow up - bosses. Crowe was excited and completely humbled when she learned her book had earned the excellence award. 'To me just getting the book published was a dream of mine,' she said, adding that having an editor praise her book was different than a family member doing so. 'It really meant a lot to me. I was completely happy to the point of tears.' The award served another purpose, she notes. 'It also gave me confirmation that I am doing what I am supposed to be doing. Writing is a great opportunity to use the talents that God has given me.' And Crowe, who loves reading, is proud of how her book appeals to kids of all ages, getting them interested in reading while learning at the same time. 'They don't even realize they are learning these values and life lessons as they're reading through the book,' she said. 'I think it accomplishes two things: love of reading at an early age and teaching them values and morals as they are growing up. I can have input in a small way with children I don't even know.' Imparting such lessons is a big reason she wrote 'Changed by a Catch,' Crowe said. 'I wanted to be able to influence not only young children but also parents. To me this book has a way of helping children learn without telling them what to do - it's more subtle. ... As a parent you feel like the kids aren't really listening. It's important to try to keep teaching them so when they grow up they respect figures of authority - all the different kinds of people they will come into contact with later on.' Swimmer Publishes New Memoir

Amidst the turbulent waters of hurricane Sonia, in an extreme state of exhaustion, while suffering the toxins of jellyfish and the barbs of a stingray, Lundgren came to the realization that his life's history formed the patterns of his thoughts and emotions. He reasoned that those thoughts and emotions are habits limiting his ability to successfully swim across the Sea of Cortez and live life with hopes of an extraordinary quality. Determined to successfully swim across the Sea of Cortez, Lundgren sat down, wrote his life's story and weaved it into the details of his previous swim attempts. Amidst the turbulent waters of hurricane Sonia, in an extreme state of exhaustion, while suffering the toxins of jellyfish and the barbs of a stingray, Lundgren came to the realization that his life's history formed the patterns of his thoughts and emotions. He reasoned that those thoughts and emotions are habits limiting his ability to successfully swim across the Sea of Cortez and live life with hopes of an extraordinary quality. Determined to successfully swim across the Sea of Cortez, Lundgren sat down, wrote his life's story and weaved it into the details of his previous swim attempts. The exercise was a discipline of courage that forced him to face the fear, shame and pain of his childhood and early adult life. Paul Lundgren has tried three times to swim the Sea of Cortez. The first was as a member of a six-person relay. The second and third attempts he swam by himself but also failed to reach the other side for different reasons.
