She was sent from her all-girls catholic school to hide in a home for unwed mothers, give birth, and relinquish her baby. The fabricated story of her kidney disease was supposed to undo the impending damage to her reputation. Judy's father instructed her to never look back. The book tells of Judy's journey from secrecy to truth, where she found compassion for herself and others. Her story is one of redemption and renewal. The dedication reads, "This book is for those of us who have been tethered to shame and secrecy that we shall soar on the wings of loving acceptance, whole again, and free into the open sky."
