From a trained, dedicated and long time music teacher comes a book that introduces musical concepts in a straight forward and incremental way. Barbara Thomas' "Guitar for Children: A Rhythm Method based on Songs" (published by Xlibris NZ) is a fun and educative learning tool for young ones interested in music and the musical instruments.

This is the first book in a series of five tutor books for the guitar, which teaches children to play using easy-to-read instructions, fun pictures and songs. It uses a rhythm-based method which allows the children to learn to play and sing along to songs, while theory concepts of music and knowledge bases underpin the work covered. Book one is the first in a series of books and each subsequent book builds on the previous knowledge base and the learner progresses through the system in a logical and sequential manner.

"Learning a musical instrument is an excellent way to make new friends, join a band, write a song, go busking or travel wherever your music will take you," Thomas says. "It can also lead you into becoming a music teacher."

Through this easy-to-read book, Thomas is able to give young learners a chance to experience what it is like to play an instrument and sing along with the songs either in a group or as an individual. The gradual development of music skills, knowledge-based confidence and a sense of achievement is what she desires most to develop in each and every young reader.
