Exiled Theatre invites you to a delightfully sinister world-premiere play production:
"M: Refractions from an Evil Act"
Written by James Wilkinson
Directed by Joe Juknievich
Starring: Julia Hertzberg, Sydney Grant, Tim Hoover and Peter Tone
Produced by Morganna Becker and Laura Crook Waxdal
Lighting Design by Nick Duffy
A late-night return. A hotel room that feels…wrong. Traveling abroad, a woman’s unease after a night out deepens into something far more insidious. The staff watches too closely. A man appears, disappears and reappears. Time loops, memory fractures and the past begins to repeat itself. As identities blur and reality destabilizes, she must escape the hotel before she’s trapped by its history.
This fully-realized production will be performing for just 7 performances at: Boston Playwrights’ Theatre, 949 Commonwealth Avenue, Boston, MA.
General Admission: $30 / Seniors and Students (w/ID): $20
Content warning: several acts of aggression, references to suicide and depiction of a murder
In a program note for his latest play, “M: Refractions from an Evil Act” – being given its world premiere production by Exiled Theatre through August 9 at Boston Playwrights' Theatre, as part of the company’s New Play Incubator program – playwright James Wilkinson, an IRNE nominee for his 2017 “Nurse Play,” writes, “This piece is based on a disastrous three-day weekend I once spent in Paris. Make of that what you may.”
Exiled Theatre has announced that 2026 is the year they will be returning from our long hibernation to present a world-premiere play to Boston audiences, M: Refractions from an Evil Act. The production marks a reuniting of the creative team behind Exiled Theatre’s IRNE-nominated production of Nurse Play and is possible in part because of Boston Playwrights’ Theatre’s New Play Incubator program.
Boston Playwrights’ Theatre launched its new play support program — the New Play Incubator at BPT — with four projects playing at BPT between March and August 2026.
