The Boston Modern Orchestra Project (BMOP), led by conductor Gil Rose, presents a Father's Day concert at NEC's Jordan Hall on June 21, 2026, featuring world premieres of new orchestral works by John Aylward and Avner Dorman, alongside New England premieres by Paul Moravec and Bernard Rogers. Dorman's cello concerto Inner Fire, written for cellist Kristina Reiko Cooper, draws on the metaphor of fire as a transformative and deeply human force, structured across five movements. Aylward's History of the World, a 26-minute work commissioned by BMOP, reflects on humanity's shared past and future, while Moravec's Miami Variations takes a four-note theme through an orchestral journey of string writing, wind episodes, and brass fanfares. Rogers's Symphony No. 5 "Africa" is part of BMOP's multi-year project to record all five of the composer's symphonies.
