Are there any cast recordings you have to listen to a lot before you get hooked on them??
I really love Sutton Foster and my friend shared with me a few songs from Little Women and I honestly did not like it at all. Astonishing was just plain weird I though, but now that I listen to it more and more I have caught on and learned to like it.
Any others with yall? Updated On: 12/12/08 at 08:16 PM
Just a heads-up, but people on this site generally get really upset if you refer to a musical's cast recording as a 'soundtrack,' because technically, a soundtrack is for a film.
But for me, "Jane Eyre" and "Evita." Also, there were a few songs from Sweeney Todd that I didn't really like until repeat listens, though I can't for the life of me remember what they were anymore. The only song from that show that I don't love is "Wait."

I'm probably gonna get skewered for this, but [title] took quite a while for me. At first, I was like, seriously, what is this ****? But then it sinks in and I haven't been quite the same ever since.
First time I listened to See What I Wanna See I hated it, thought it was too heavy, graphic and disturbing, but not in a good way. But I couldn't get Big Money out of my head after I heard it so I listened to it again a few weeks later and kinda liked it, then I listened to it again a few weeks after that and thought it was great. Now, it's one of my favorite shows! I found Dirty Rotten Scoundrels to be all over the place and too pop-comercial on my first listen. I stopped after Ruprecht. I still can't listen to Passion but I know I'll love it someday.
You're reminding me of people you hear at the movies asking questions every ten seconds, "Who is that? Why is that guy walking down the street? Who's that lady coming up to him? Uh-oh, why did that car go by? Why is it so dark in this theater?" - FindingNamo on strummergirl

The first time I listened to Into the Woods (please don't kill me), I thought, "What the hell is this? It's totally tuneless."
It definitely took me a while to warm up to Jelly's Last Jam as a show in general.

ATTENTION FANS: I will be played by James Barbour in the upcoming musical, "BroadwayWorld: The Musical."
mmm yeah I was kinda the same way with Piazza it took a few times but its so magical <3 especially if you get the chance to see it live but i looove it too
I had seen Jersey Boys on the Tony Awards (I was only 13) and I didn't like it. I requested tickets for my 15th birthday this year, I went, and then next thing I know I'm sitting front row seeing Frankie Valli live at the "Tribute On Ice" special!
Not a recording, but I could not stand Kerry Butler's voice for the longest time. Then, when I saw her on the Tony's I was amazed. Ever since I can't stop listening to her!
I want to apologize for some offensive messages posted on this board under my name. The night 0f 12-15-08 I did not have internet access, and someone had used my name to post something offensive. My avatar was also changed. I dont' know what else was posted, or if anyone recieved bad PMs, but I want to apologize for that. I've changed my password, and even though I was not the one posting these messages it still needed to be corrected.
Same here. It's mostly Sondheim that I have to listen to a few times before I catch on. Sunday in the Park with George and A Little Night Music were the hardest for me, but now they're two of my favorite Sondheim shows. Especially Sunday. A Little Night Music I hated until I heard the Judi Dench recording.
I abosolutely hated Next to Normal when I saw it at Second Stage, but now that I'm listening to some of the music again I'm starting to warm up to it. I guess I just wasn't ready for the emotional shock of it. Maybe if I ever get around to seeing it down in DC I'll like it better.
I also never really liked Cole Porter, but Anything Goes is slowly starting to change my opinion of his music.
Passion was the first thing that came to mind when I saw the title of this thread.

The Light in the Piazza and Sunday In the Park With George. I enjoyed Sunday while watching it but never liked just listening to it until I just played it several times.
I listened to A Little Night music once last year and hated it. The Overture just happened to come on my shuffle playlist a few eeeks ago, and I thought it was the most beautiful thing I'd ever heard. So I decided to listen to the rest of the album.
Now I cannot stop listening to it.

I'd also like to add to Sunday in the Park with George, though technically it was the DVD I had trouble with before I'd even heard the cast recording. My aunt had a copy of the performance and I couldn't even get through the first act on my first two attempts.
