I was just watching some videos on YouTube--and my god, Rachel York can do anything, I'm pretty sure. Kiss Me Kate, DRS, Camelot... Anyone else think this woman is a goddess?

Not for sure, but I don't think her SAT scores were all that great.

"Anyone else think this woman is a goddess?"

In a word, YES.

Don't forget Victor/Victoria, Dessa Rose, Ragtime, Les Miz...

"Has Rachel York ever...NOT been brilliant?"

In a word, NO.

Versatile, versatile, versatile.

Is she the one who sings the overblown version of "Someone Else's Story" in the Nyack BC/EFA "Chess" Concert?

I listen to the recording of her singing the jawsome solo from Kristina "You Have To Be There" way too much.

I didn't think her belt at the end of "I'm Here!" in DRS was that strong. But I guess she was okay.

Rachel is Love. This is her, Betty Garrett and Michael Gruber in My One and Only.

Let's not forget her fabulous performance in City of Angels. "Lost and Found" is the hottest song ever

wickedrentq hit the nail on the head with "versatile". Not only is she brilliantly talented but she can do any kind of role without looking/sounding/acting the same. She deserves more attention. A true talent.

Can I respond with 'no'?
I personally thought her performance in DIRTY ROTTEN SCOUNDRELS was laughable at times.

Not completely her fault though, she was miscat. Her voice wasn't right for Christine.

Unfortunately, I did not see her in DRS. I've never seen her where she has been less than brilliant.

I had seen Sherie in DRS twice before seeing Rachel York. Before seeing Rachel (not having a clue who she was), I was really dreading watching her--as NOBODY could top the incredible Sherie Rene Scott!...she sang the HELL out of the score and she was just terrific! Her Here I Am was incredible, to me. She started off sounding a little raspy (which really made me nervous), but she held the high note out instead of going down (like Sherie did), which sounded incredible.

I work at a theater in Dallas that brings in most of the major touring productions when they come to Dallas--and when Camelot was here, I was very excited to see that Rachel was coming with ti! I didn't know the story/characters (not well, atleast)...and on opening night, I sat there waiting to hear Rachel start singing. Act 1 ended and I never heard her...

I finally got a hold of a program and I found out that she was singing a LOT during act 1--I just didn't recognize her voice at all! A complete 180 from playing Christine!

You should have seen me when I went to the stagedoor to meet her. Do you remember what teenage girls were like around Nsync/Backstreet Boys in 2000? Yeah, I was similar to that :-P. I was at a loss of words--I didn't know what to tell her. I got a picture with her, and she was just sweet as could be. It's funny--Michael York walked out before her and I didn't even move. I just waited for him to get out of the way. Rachel walked out--and my heart started RACING. Ah, LOVE this woman! Let her be back on Broadway soon, please!...or tour to Dallas again soon :).

Oh, I love this thread because I love Rachel York! This makes me smile smile smile.

And guess what? I just looked at her website, and she will be singing in three concerts/cabarets this fall. OMG. All Rachel all the time!

A place called Sterling's Upstairs in LA Sept. 8 and 16; the Philly Pops Sept. 29 through October 7; and Feinstein's at the Regency in NYC October 14 and 15. Gah!

This gal's got it all - beauty; amazing voice that can belt, sing legit soprano and swing jazz; great dramatic acting ability; and great comic chops. Oh and did I mention she's as sweet as pie? Couldn't be nicer at the stage door.

Brilliant and versatile, yes yes yes. And for the record, I loved her in DRS. She got way up there for that last note in Here I Am and for the riff in Love Is My Legs. And she held them forever. To me it sounded like the sound levels weren't right for her. I blame the techies. Her mike was way out of balance. And I loved her acting choices for Christine, too. I knew the ending but still got caught up in her innocence. The whole audience sighed when she came back in tears. Aw.

And don't forget Summer of '42. Great great great.

Sigh.

She was, for me at least, the only watchable thing in the "Sly Fox" revival.

Oh, that's right. Forgot Sly Fox! I actually saw her play BOTH roles - first Miss Fancy, then Mrs. Truckle. She was great in both! How many other actresses could switch from professional prostitute to professional virgin in the same play and be so believable in each role?

Amazing.
