Saw the 7-14 matinee of this classic show.

Have now seen it three times and today was an A+ for all concerned. The understudy was on for Little Edie and she was the best of all the Little Edies seen.

Christine and MLW were brilliant in wringing laughs and tears from their songs and overall perfs. Matt was even better in shaping his two characters: the goofy Jerry and the shallow Joe Kennedy.

The audience, at about 90% capacity, laughed and cried and cheered for all at final curtain.

Let's hope the show can stay open beyond the 29th.

The Little Edie understudy must be so elated to get to go on for the first time. Glad to hear she was brill.

What's her name?

I was with Maureen today at Broadway Barks and asked her how she did and she said "that girl is brilliant."

A little mad as I got up @ 9:30 in Jersey, took the bus in and went to the box office @ 11am for SR and she had "one left."

I then had my friend go, and she said they were sold out, so I told him to ask "well is the show sold out at full capacity?" and she said "well... no... but we're going to sell the remaining for full price."

Sad they couldn't have been at 91%...

After this review I'd love to catch her tomorrow!

..... one day, you people won't use hyperbolic imagery in your thread titles, and I won't get so excited by a promising subject. re: Grey Gardens: Cast on Fire

Not that I wish burns on the cast, but for 2.30am, it's still a slightly gigglesome mental image.

For a moment I took that thread title literally.

Which wouldn't have been good.

Because I'm seeing it again tomorrow.

Anyway, I'm glad to hear that everyone's in top form! I hope they're still on fire for the matinee tomorrow!

I would only set the cast on fire if Paris Hilton and Nick Lachey joined the cast.

Unless of course Nick were shirtless. . .

Do you think that they may be available at TKTS for their last week? We'll be in town and would love to see this show, but geez hate to pay full price if I can help it. Or do you think I should try and order before we head east. Any advice?

Thank you!

The show's evening perf was on the board at 50% off. As the closing date comes closer it may be harder to get tickets.

ImaRose, you can get tickets in the rear mezz ahead of time for about $10 more than you would at TKTS.

I was in the front row at the same performance bawling my eyes out. This show is not good for my health, really. It's amazing.

After seeing Maureen Moore at Broadway Barks yesterday, I would like to see her as Little/Big Edie in Grey Gardens and back in Gypsy as Mama Rose. That lady is a hoot!

Just to let everyone know, they do have student rush because I purchased one for yesterday's evening performance.

It's good for your heart.

I wonder what CE will say at the closing perf curtain speech?

Just to add my two cents, Megan Lewis was really spectacular! Her physical resemblance to CE was uncanny and her singing was beautiful! Many around me were commenting that they couldn't believe this was only her second performance.

One wonders why she didn't get the part to begin with.

It's a shame that supposed in-fighting among the producers is the main reason the show is closing. It seems that the time and $ involved in finding and replacing MLW and eventually CE is why the show will close.

What it comes down to is this: GG is a special show that needs stars to keep it going. I say get Catherine O'Hara and either Cloris Leachman or Angela Lansbury to do the roles. There are plenty of broads :) around 70 who would love to work and this part is ideal: you are in bed most of the time.

How about Jane Powell? the British Liz Smith? Shirley MacLaine?

How about Eunice and Mama from the "Carol Burnett Show"?
