I have heard recordings. She sounded ok...not a Sherie though.

She's ok. The role doesn't really fit her. You can find videos of her on the unmentionable site.

neddyfrank2 I'm asking because I can't really imagine Idina as Amneris, as Becoz_i_knew_you21 said the role doesn't really fit her.

I saw her several times. I was disappointed at first because she had brown hair and I thought the part required blonde. Anyways I didn't know who she was, and when I heard that she had been chosen for Wicked, I looked at her a little differently in the role. I wasn't really that big of a part, she was fine.

Why would the part "require" a blonde? It wasn't exactly a common phenotype in Ancient Egypt.

i have a recording of her doing My Strongest Suit, and the end is an obvious disaster. but the faces she made to try and get on pitch were quite funny.......

Out of everyone I've heard, I think she was the best-sung in the part, but she was just kind of passable acting wise. It's a weird fit.

wouldn't most of them be brunette anyway?

OT, but speaking of Idina/Sherie - did anyone here see Sherie in Rent? I thought was was a pretty good Maureen, not as good as Idina tho

It doesn't matter what color hair Amneris has. You guys just think they have to have blonde hair because of Sherie. There plenty of Amneris's who did not have blonde hair.

I don't think people are thinking of Amneris having blonde hair because of Sherie as much as Amneris is very much a character that fits into our modern-day "blonde" stereotype. I agree that it ultimately doesn't matter too much, though.

You forget the production was not trying to recreate ancient Egypt. not in the least...

I actually loved her as Amneris. She had a beautiful voice, and actually acted the part very well. She was funny in the comedic scenes, but very powerful near the end. Her "I Know the Truth" was amazing!

^^ Yeah, I've heard that no one can beat Idina's "I know the truth"
