"Tomorrow"- Annie
"Cabaret"- Cabaret

I know that these two songs are unusual to be on this list, but I feel if you really listen to the lyrics/music and take into account the situation these characters are in they have always struck me as very sad.
That being said, I think that Andrea McArdle and Jill Hayworth are the only ones who o justice to these songs, respectively.

Traditional-

"Our Time" + "Good Thing Going"- Merrily...

"Happily Ever After"- cut from Company. Both sad and scary!

"Over the Rainbow - Reprise" - Wizard of Oz (Only on the OLC I think)
"Goodbye Until Tomorrow" - Last 5 Years....breaks my heart everytime.

The saddest song for me in any musical is No-one but you from We Will Rock You. Although it was recorded by queen after Freddies death most people know it through the musical and it really is sad.

Others are -
Tell me its not true - Blood Brothers
All I ask of you (reprise) - Phantom
I'll cover you (reprise) - Rent

i think glitter and be gay would be a good song to write about. Although with a silly exterior it really about a woman who's trying to make the best out of being constantly raped.

I don't think Empty Chairs or A Little Fall of Rain are all hope is lost songs. They're certainly sad, though.

"My Child Will Forgive Me" -- Parade
"I'd Do Anything for Him" -- Kiss of the Spider Woman
"The Second Attack/Death of Gavroche" (now "Ten Little Bullets") -- Les Miserables
"President" -- Ragtime (I can't listen to it at all...upsets me too much)
"The I Love You Song" -- The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee
"A Boy Like That" -- West Side Story
"Marrried (Reprise)" -- Cabaret

I still think The Last 5 Years probably has some of the saddest music ever on it.

"Around the World" from Grey Gardens is my new tearjerker. I get misty eyed EVERY time I hear that song.
Also, I know not a techincal "song", but the part of "The Firing of Jimmy" in Dreamgirls where Lorrell sings "And Lorrell loves Jimmy...". When it's not riffed (as Heather Hedley does like a mad woman in the concert recording) it's a terribly heartbreaking moment.

I didn't read all the songs mentioned above, so sorry if these were already suggested.

"A Step Too Far" and "Written in the Stars" are both beautifully written songs, and in the proper context (ie. from the show) are genuinely saddening.

At least, I thought so. re: Saddest songs

Edit: Whoops- both songs from Aida.

I don't think it has been mentioned: Just A Housewife (Working)

I find the end just heart-wrenching.
