I've had the press release album for a while now, but I do agree, she sounds Amazing, and I really do like the orchestrations.
...What happened next, was stranger still, a woman breathless and afraid, appeared out of the night, completely dressed in white. She had a secret she would tell, of one who had mistreated her. Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...
Just so everyone knows, this is not the final mix of the song. Jenn went back and rerecorded her vocal, plus the orchestrations have been redone. This is according to Accuracy1, who's worked closely on the film.
I will say I'm glad that it may end up being more polished on the film, but I mean, wow. No other word to describe it, WOW. I do think it's as good as Jennifer Holliday's rendition. Of course there a differences, but it definitely equals it.
I just can not wait for this movie to be released. I definitely think there is no way she will not win the Oscar this year, and if she does it'll launch her career in massive ways. Will the film win Best Picture? It's possible, but I have no doubt that she is going to just shine in this film.

I chose, and my world was shaken- So what? The choice may have been mistaken,
The choosing was not...

"And when Idina Menzel is singing, I'm always slightly worried that her teeth are going to jump out of her mouth and chase me." - Schmerg_the_Impaler
To me, she sounds like a mix between the best of Lillas and J.Holliday but with a bigger range than either of those two ever had. It doesn't come off as heavy as Holliday's rendition but it's definitely emotional and definitely a very top-notch performance of that song. I smell SOME kind of nomination.
"Who says you can't bend over backwards and eat bugs if you want to? I guess the bugs would probably say you can't do that that, but assuming that they are willing and consenting bugs, then there's no problem. Let's wig out eating bugs."

Simply amazing. She did not fail me. And the orchestrations are really fantastic. I've been listening to it non stop. I can move on now from the horrors of the concert recording.
I hate it if Beyonce will get all the credit (which is currently happening by the way). She's bland on this.
Beyonce is definitely not getting all the credit. Hudson will get the attention she deserves, and already is in a lot of places.
And this is, as stated, NOT the final version that is going to be in the film, neither the singing wise or the orchestrations (which hear sound like a karaoke version, especially at the end). Hudson has stated that she found different things to do with the song, emotionally and vocally, while filming so if this is just a preview it is a damn good one!
I guess I'm the only one who didn't love her (pun intended?). I mean she is good but that is Holiday's song and nothing can top her. I'm sure on screen it will read a lot better then it does just listening to it, as it does on stage.
And to let everyone know, Oscars are not awarded based on singing ability. Can she act? Let's find out in a couple months.
"People that excel in the arts understand that the journey is the reward...the result an added bonus. Every day I act or train is a blessing and a dream come true. If Broadway beckons so be it. I have a personal definition of success that is unshakable by a possibly unobtainable goal." -HamletWasBipolar
Wonderful version - she isn't imitating Holliday (a near impossible feat). And I would not be surprised if an even BETTER version winds up in the film.
