Hi everyone! I've been reading this board for a long time, but have never posted. Sorry if this is a lame way to join in, but I'm coming to NYC this weekend and my husband just offered to stay back with my one year old during her Saturday afternoon nap so that I could go to a matinee. I have seen most of the shows that have been around longer than 2 years, but haven't been up that way since then. So I haven't seen any of the shows nominated for Tonys last year or, obviously, the ones that should be up this year. I don't want to buy tickets ahead of time, just in case, so I would need one that would be relatively easy to buy a last minute, single ticket. From the Tonys last year, I'm interested in Spelling Bee, DRS, and Spamalot. Of the new ones, I don't think I'm that interested in Tarzan or Wedding Singer. Also, I'm seeing Three Days of Rain Friday night, and am really only interested in musicals for Saturday. I'd appreciate any suggestions anyoone can give me...Thanks!!
Have a great trip but a word of advice: Stay away from "Lestat" unless you are also in need of an afternoon nap.

DROWSY CHAPERONE: you can play the lotto at 1 in front of the theater and i won the three times i played but they were all in previews its up on the tkts board sometimes. So def check that out.
Drowsey is indeed good but to compare this to Lestat is like comparing apples & oranges. Lestat has so much more to it & it is superior in every way except choreography
Drowsy, Wedding Singer or go for a classic like Chicago or Phantom!

Her face and frightened gaze, my mind cannot erase...But then she ran from view. She looked so much like you...
LOL! "Lestat" being superior to any show is pretty funny. It is truly dreadful.

Everyone thought Copenhagen was the cats pajamas but everyone I spoke to who saw it thought it was BORING. We walked out at the intermission. The guy next to us did not as he was snoring quite loudly when we left .This one the best Tony ??????
If you pay for your ticket, you are entiteled to your opinion. While I respect it, I disagree with it totally
The Marquis is definitely one of my favorite theatres. I just had to throw that in!

Mr Roxy: I'm with you about the bathrooms at the Marquis. They should fix that! I feel sorry for people seated in the front of the orchestra who have to use the bathrooms at Intermission. By the time they get up the aise, the lines are stretched into the lobby.

"You just can't win. Ever. Look at the bright side, at least you are not stuck in First Wives Club: The Musical. That would really suck. "

I suggest DRS. Jonathan Pryce and Norbert Leo Butz are giving performances you simply don't want to miss, and they will be leaving the show soon, so catch them now. The show is flat out hilarious, and there are some surprisingly good songs, too. Norbert's "Great Big Stuff" is going to go down in history as a bravura triumph, and his duet with Rachel York called "Love Is My Legs" is an hysterical send-up of doo-wop ballads. Her "Nothing Is Too Wonderful to Be True" is quite lovely, and Pryce's "Love Sneaks In" is very touching. The comedy is non-stop and the cast is top notch all the way down the line.
Too bad you can only see one. There are so many great shows running. Good luck in making a selection.
My impression was that DRS was already on his/her list.
If not, then I change my recommendation to DRS. Norbert gives an absolute star turn that should not be missed, and his chemistry with Pryce is just fantastic.

Yes, DRS is on my list, but it is my short list and I still need to pick one. So I will definitely move it up to the top. I have seen Norbert in a few other shows and loved his performance on the Tonys last year. Plus, I'd love to see Jonathon in person. Thanks for the advice. Do you think I could get a single ticket at the last minute?

Actually, "The Wedding Singer" is tons of fun and just a great day of theatre. I enjoyed it so much. I would recommend that right away, even though you mentioned you weren't interested in it. Other than that, DRS is great too.
What about a play? I'd recommend "The Lieutenant of Inishmore".
A little swash, a bit of buckle - you'll love it more than bread.
little_sally, I'm already seeing Three Days of Rain on Friday night. So I'm more interested in a musical on Saturday. I think I might try DRS first, although I'm a bit scared of being wounded if I don't see The History Boys. I appreciate all the advice. Now I at least have an idea of the shows to try if DRS doesn't work out.
