I read the "What's TABOO?" thread, but I'm hoping for some less biased opinions as well. Taboo OBCR~ Opinions please
I am contemplating getting the CD. I am planning on getting lots of new cast recordings tomorrow (or today, actually) because Barnes and Noble is having an amazing sale that ends today/tomorrow. Anyway, I've only heard part of "Petrified" and let's just say, well...erm,*swoon* uh...*ahem* *babbles incoherently.* Yes, well, you see how it is. Taboo OBCR~ Opinions please
SO, my question is, being that I love Raul and the part I heard of that song, would you recommend the whole cd? I don't really want to spend all that money on one song. I know this is kind of a hard question to answer, but I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Oh hell yeah. Even if you just get it for Raul, you won't be disappointed. His 4 songs are unbelievable.

Since you mentioned Raul, I assume you're asking about the O*B*CR, since the OCR is technically the London cast recording. I think both are excellent, but I have a soft spot for the magic John McDaniel managed to work with the arrangements on the Broadway Cast Recording. I think you'd be hard-pressed to pick a better choice for the best original score of the 03-04 Broadway season, and I'm sure you'll come away from your first listen hoping that Boy George continues to write for the theatre: he is not exactly a master yet, but he has potential.

Get it. Own it. Love it.

I think, truly one of the best scores of the last 10 years. SO theatrical from and unexpected source (I always liked Boy George's music but didn't think it could be as good as what he wrote for Taboo). I know I'm in the minority on that one, but if its good enough for Sondheim (who loved the show), its good enough for me.

It's beautiful and you should own it. The cast is nearly utter perfection, and the score is truly a gem. Buy it.

This thread reminds me that I need to get the CD. I listened to it at a friend's in NY. I was really surprised at how good it is. I had heard snippets and didn't like it. But listening to it as a whole was nice. I now wish I had seen the show!

Buy the CD. Listen to it. Love it. Obsess over it. Join the rest of those who have...myself included...although I saw the show, you don't have to have to LOVE the recording.

And hang on, when did you win the discus?

Elphie, I didn't see the show, but I got it based just on a short clip of Petrified and I was not disappointed.

I'm one of the biased ones here, but friends who have no interest whatsoever in Broadway absolutely loved the CD! I guarantee you won't regret it.
