I'm neutral on the DeBose news but I just hope the Tonys learned from last year how successful the broadcast when they focus on the work & the shows and they keep the little bits & stuff to a minimum.

She was just in Argylle (which flopped, but was high-profile), she has the main female role Marvel's Kraven the Hunter coming out this summer (delayed from last year), and she just landed the female lead in Ke Huy Quan's upcoming film for Universal. Obviously, we have no idea how successful any of her projects will be at the box office, but she keeps booking work with major studios, which is the opposite of "stalled." I'm not a big fan of hers, but I think she's pretty ubiquitous these days.

Any idea why they are doing this in the Koch theatre and not in the, much larger, opera house? How are they planning on fitting all the co-producers and their plus ones?

Now THIS is the real question. Previous years the invite list has been getting considerably smaller, and your co-producers are hoping for an invite. ... That's a lot of co-producers and plus ones...

MADAME WEB was a Marvel movie. I’m just sayin’.

You're sayin' a whole lotta nuthin. As Kad noted, it's been two years since her award and the industry was shut down for 6 months last year. She's playing opposite one of the hottest rising stars in a tentpole film. It may suck, but it's probably gonna make money. The incel boys will love it, no matter how terrible it probably will be.

The first performance of Onegin by the Ballet is June 18, so they will need to do dress rehearsals etc so the opera house likely not available.

The American ballet theatre always does four ballets for a week each from mid June to mid July.  I’m actually happy that the Tonys are going to be in the Koch theatre.  It feels more fitting for Broadway than the opera house, or up in Washington heights or the Beacon.  They will set up the red carpet around the fountain in front of David geffen and/or the Met opera. At least that’s how they do it for big galas.  Lots of space for photographers and reporters.  If it’s successful, I hope it becomes the permanent home of the Tony’s.  We don’t need Radio City.

Why not? It often is -- since both are on Sundays in the first half of June. But still, what difference does it make? MOST Father's day activities (for those that have them - I don't, my father lives over 1k miles away, my kids' father lives almost 3k miles away - our phone calls take about 20 minutes out of our morning.)are daytime events, like BBQs/Picnics.
"

While I agree it's not a big deal that it's on Father's Day, it's not true that it often is. In fact, I believe it's only happened once before (2008). Since the Tonys moved to June, they are usually the first or second Sunday while Father's Day is the third Sunday.

I hope they don’t put people in the pit area like they usually do.  They should put the pit in there and build the walkway thing behind it like they usually do. Theres a word for it, I forget what it’s called. Like it hello dolly.

DeBose did a good job last year, especially with that opening dance. As others have noted, she keeps getting work in high-profile movies. She’s not a mainstream star who will draw non-Broadway audiences, but that’s a ratings issue. I doubt people are clamoring to do the gig.

And if indeed it is true she's coming back to Bway next year, it doesn't hurt to create some more good will, stay connected to the community.

Also, I was thinking about her recently, with Anne Hathaway revealing the effect all the online attacks of her being too perfect or having "theatre kid energy." Reminded me of the insane negativity Ariana has faced for simply showing joy for the work. She's talented and the theatre world is right to embrace her.

It’s called a passerelle.

Yes I couldn’t think of it!  They should have a passerelle at the Tony’s but with the orchestra in the pit, not the Tony voters? Or whoever is in there.  last year they didn’t have it at all and the orchestra was upstage?  I think one year they were across the street actually, and the conductor was conducting from a restroom.  Where have they been putting the orchestra?

Those saying she has any star power whatsoever are a bit delusional. She’s talented, yes, but star power she has none of. If the telecast is aiming to draw more viewership, this isn’t who you do it with.
