In Chicago, the book to this was incredibly misguided and truly awful. You could sort of see how good a show it could be during some of the musical numbers but... it felt like it needed to be reconceptualized to be successful. Doesn't really seem like they have taken enough time to do so? But. I hope! Great songs and a good central performance (though even that was hampered by the book).

I’m sure Iglehart will be good, as he always is, but this just seems like a yawn to me.

Hm.. I’ve found most of his performances one-note and underwhelming post-Aladdin (e.g. Guys & Dolls, Hamilton, Spamalot) but I heard good word of mouth re: his Louis Armstrong. But at this point can we just make a new awards category, Best Impersonation?

Hopefully pointing out that it's playing THE LEGENDARY STUDIO 54 will help its box office as much as it's helped DAYS OF WINE & ROSES, PICTURES FROM HOME, SWEAT, and CAROLINE..........

Point taken, though it didn't matter for Caroline since that was a Roundabout show

CAROLINE sold abysmally, even by Roundabout standards, and though a Roundabout show is not capitalized like a traditional commercial production, ticket sales are still vital (especially for that specific show because it had commercial partners).

I saw this in Chicago on a whim - zero interest and I think I paid like $25 and got bumped to mid-orchestra. That said, I really enjoyed myself. There are some gorgeous arrangements and the duet between the 2 wives in Act 2 (or maybe it ends act 1?) was astonishing. And he gave a really great central performance. Glad they’re reworking the book because the set and design are great and great performances and vocals.

Love me some Louis Armstrong. So off I shlepped to New Orleans to catch this pre Broadway "celeberatiion" of Louis Armstrong's life. Unfortuantelh, this show was a total yawn. I'm surprized they are even trying for Broadway.

Instead of celebrating Loius Armtroing we find out he cheated on his wife. That in a nutshell is the whole show. Mr Armsrtoing should be turning in his grave at was is defintely not a celebration of the life of Louis Armstroing.

This should be a great musical.

Rumor has it that Mr. Armstroing was adopted and brought up by Jewish parents who encouraged Loius to be musical. That is the musical that should be told. Instead we are treated to how Mr. Armstrong was unfaithfull to his wife..  Yes that is what we learn from this mess of a musical.

This  should have shutterred out of town.


Only my opinion  but this musical was disappointing.. Even Mr. Eigelhart (spelling) coud not save it.
