Interesting. Not *too* bad of a lineup. Glad to see A Strange Loop making its way to LA!

Nice that L.A. is getting FUNNY GIRL and STRANGE LOOP, but depressing that the whole season is tours or productions first mounted elsewhere –– with the only nonmusical play being an IP-based comedy with music.

Good for them if it all sells, I guess? But I FEEL the loss of the Taper in this announcement.

My first thought was that Michele will do the LA run of "Funny Girl". I could be wrong though.

what a depressing line up of shows. Strange Loop would have been better for the Taper since the show will never appeal to Ahmanson subscribers (they hated the recent Oklahoma revival).  Funny Girl without a name star as Fanny will only highlight what a mediocre musical it is.  Hadestown already played the Ahmanson not that long ago. Christmas Story will likely do well over the holidays. Clue is a small show that could be swamped on the big Ahmanson stage.  I'm usually a single ticket buyer who attends 1 or 2 shows each season, but I won't be buying any tickets for this season.  One of the biggest problems the Ahmanson has is that it's hard for them to compete for the big tours since the Pantages in Hollywood is a much larger house and tours can bank big bucks playing there rather than the Ahmanson.

The Funny Girl tour heads to San Francisco right after the Ahmanson. This doesn’t mean Lea Michele won’t appear in Los Angeles, just pointing it out. As of now, there’s no mention of her.

There are a few weeks between A Strange Loop at the ACT in San Francisco (the three week and change run ends May 12) and its run at the Ahmanson in June. I don’t know if this will be something of a mini-tour or if there will be completely different casts. I strongly suspect sales will be much stronger in San Francisco at a smaller venue (the Ahmanson seats 2,000; the Toni Rembe Theatre— formerly the Geary — sits 1,000) but could be wrong.

I've seen a few show at this space...it's HUGE.....

Felt like different pockets of audience members were having different reactions to what was happening on stage.

I don’t love that venue in LA. And we just had Hadestown. Hopefully Michele does the LA run to help that theater make some $$.

And hoping A Strange Loop comes to the Goodman or something in Chicago.

Happily looking forward to driving north to L.A. for "Funny Girl," no matter who stars.  But especially anxious to see "Romeo and Juliet".  Love Matthew Bourne.

I'm disappointed by this season as well. It was obvious that Funny Girl was part of it and I'm glad A Strange Loop is coming. They should have gotten Company as it seems more apt for the Ahmanson stage and not the Pantages. I was really hoping for Leopoldstadt to come here.

The only thing with Lea and Funny Girl is that she said she knows what she's doing next. Didn't she say it's very different musically than Funny Girl?

So is A Strange Loop a sit-down production or the mini-tour that's been rumored since it closed on Broadway?

A Chorus Line revival played its final Broadway performance on August 17, 2008. The tour played its final performance on August 21, 2011. A new non-equity tour started in October 2012 played its final performance on March 23, 2013. Another non-equity tour launched on January 20, 2018. The tour ended its US run in Kansas City and then toured throughout Japan August & September 2018.

And I worry for A Strange Loop for the same reason, let alone how enormous the Ahmanson house is.

This seems pretty underwhelming for me. I love the Ahmanson due to the easy parking and the fact that they always have amazing deals and lottery options that The Pantages just doesn’t offer. I saw A Strange Loop and Funny Girl in NY and Hadestown in NY and the tour in LA.

Can Funny Girl sell on the road without a big star.

I saw the official CTG poster doesn't list a name or picture of the new lead.

Revivals of classics are usually very successful on tour, regardless of casting.

A.J. said: "Revivals of classics are usually very successful on tour, regardless of casting."

That's true, but I think this revival is mostly famous to the general public because of the Beanie/Lea casting controversy.  And since Lea is not doing the tour (and NO, she won't be doing the LA stop), I don't think the general theatre going public (especially here in LA) are going to flock to this one.  Besides, CTG is trying to sell a full season here and, after the bad publicity of the Taper going dark, they really needed a smashing season for 2023/2024 and this ain't it.  Very poor roster of shows for a theatre that needs to lure ticket buyers back.

Is Romeo & Juliet a ballet?  I'm tentatively planning a February trip to Southern Cali to try & see the new Idina Menzel show at LA Jolla Playhouse.  The Wiz plays LA then as well.  Don't know that a ballet interests me enough?

The Ahmanson has a seating capacity of 2,000, but I’ve seen it with the balcony closed off. I even remember seeing the mezzanine walled off at the halfway point for a show years ago.

It is a very weak season. Is the Funny Girl tour non-equity?

Disappointed that they've only scheduled one show for the Kirk Douglas. It's a wonderful venue and it's a shame season after season to see it sitting vacant for longer and longer periods. I guess they didn't want the optics of having shut down both the Taper and the Douglas but shoving one show of questionable appeal in for six weeks is hardly what anyone would classify as a "season".

As far as the Ahmanson season is concerned, some if not most shows may do well and I'm certainly hoping for that but it doesn't feel like the home run season that's going to help them get back on the path to financial viability. Clue in particular seems like a questionable choice as it's getting done at a number of regional theaters including a run at the La Mirada just down the road only 2 years ago and seems like it would be lost in the 2000 seat Ahmanson. Hardly the buzzy new work or fresh from Broadway hit most Ahmanson patrons probably were hoping for.
