WAS to be Ghee.

Now all the talk has shifted to Groban.

I've been saying that for a while now! This is Groban's year! His Sweeney Todd is a performance that cannot be missed!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Cara Joy David reporting that the NYNY score is ineligible, but I don’t know if that claim is baseless.

Listening to the Gold Derby guys' predictions and they said it too. BroadwayWorld's eligibility summary DID include rulings that both leads are up for leading actor and actress, but did not have anything indicating whether or not it's eligible for score.

Some folks on here pointed out there was precedent for not specifying that (I think Newsies and Aladdin were the examples used), but again don’t know if that’s just an assumption or if there’s validity.

We’ll find out in about 23 hours!

If Colton Ryan slips in over Andrew Burnap, I will be so disappointed.

From Broadway Briefing. This settles it!

According to a press representative for “New York, New York,” the score — with music and lyrics by John Kander and Fred Ebb with additional lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda — will not be eligible for Best Original Score."

My sole Tony-wishlist item for this year is an Andrew Burnap nomination. I did love Camelot despite many detractors, and I'm pretty sure 95% of that was because of his performance.

Burnap is excellent. I'd be surprised if he isn't nominated.

I think you're confusing the Tonys with the Razzies.

lol Bad Cinderella doesn't even have anyone eligible for lead actor!

I do think it can get in for costume design...that's probably it though.

To me, the key to the brilliance of his performance is you felt like you were seeing two performances -- a callow youth in the first act and a world-weary leader in the second.

Couldn't agree with this more, and that he's really the reason I enjoyed Camelot as much as I did (and more than I thought I would). He made Arthur so likable.

Definitely still hoping for some Dancin nods as my #1 wish list this year, but Burnap's right up there. I really hope he gets a nomination. (That category should be Borle / Burnap / Ghee / Groban / Platt imho)

If anyone needs a good laugh today, I briefly thought this was about Jordan Dobson.

I’d love to see this board’s reaction if Sarah Porkalob gets in for featured actress.

Besides the much discussed lead acting categories, one that is quite perplexing is Featured Actor in a Musical.

I'd say Alex Newell, Justin Cooley, and Kevin del Aguila feel safe ish. Going by who showed up in precursors, Kevin Cahoon and Mark Jacoby would get the next two slots. But I think Gavin Creel and Jordan Donica feel like very strong contenders (plus Dancin' has put out a bunch of well timed interviews for Kolton Krouse, pushing them as the acting bid for the show.) Thoughts? I think Creel is well liked by the right folks and should get in. But he's far from a sure thing. Fifth slot is a total mystery.

To me, the key to the brilliance of his performance is I am very h*rny for that man.

This is the one I can't narrow down either, and strongly suspect we'll see more than 5 nominees. I don't know that I agree that Kevin Del Aguila is a lock (though he was one of my favorite parts of SLIH so he's on my list for sure). I also think Alex Joseph Grayson was phenomenal in Parade and is for sure on the short list, and a lot of people felt Gaten Matarazzo was a standout in Sweeney as well. Never mind so much other featured talent in Parade and Shucked in particular, that in any other season would be nom-worthy.

Total embarrassment of riches this season, it's the one category I'm most intrigued to see where it lands.

I do think New York New York is still the frontrunner for that fifth slot in Best Musical, though I think it's far from guaranteed, possibly going to A Beautiful Noise instead.  But looking at the ratio of positive/mixed/negative reviews alone, it would look like KPOP has a shot (though I know critics are often different from the Tony nominators), and I feel like we still can't completely discount Bad Cinderella or Almost Famous though I think their chances are increasingly unlikely.  So, do we see a world where there are 6 nominees for Best Musical tomorrow?

Featured Actor in a Musical is making me crazy, I feel like Alex Newell is the only lock in the category. But I think Gaten and Gavin will make in.

Kevin del Aguila and Jordan Donica feel like as much of a lock as Newell.

If they love Akimbo as much as we think they will, Cooley or Boyer could make it in (at the expense of someone like Creel who feels like a 5/6th slot at best).

I disagree about Donica. His performance was acclaimed but he is in a show that received cold and he is no name at the Tonys. If they refuse to reward the show with noms above the line, he can easily be snubbed.
