Jake Gyllenhaal recently said he’d like to do Fiddler next. Is the remake of the movie still happening? I’d prefer Jake to Josh Gad. Gad has more of the look, but he does the same voice for every character, and I don’t want to hear Olaf as our milkman. Thoughts?
I can only see a new film version being done for some streaming service as a prestige project.
I'm sure Gyllenhaal would sell tickets on Broadway - he probably does better now as a lead on Bwy than as a lead in films. But, he's only 42. For Tevye I'd prefer he wait until he's a bit older. There are plenty of roles he could tackle now.
Now that Encores has done Dear World, maybe they could do Jerry Herman 's The Grand Tour next?
Or, how about a revival of Little Me? The Martin Short revival closed 24 years ago.
I'm sorry, most people would turn down starring in a movie to get to be in their high school musical? Jamie Lee, exactly who are you talking about here?

Technically, the character breakdown for Tevye is 35-60. It truly relies on the actor and how he portrays an older man. Topol did just that so he wasn’t just playing Tevye as himself but adding the older man physicality, mannerisms, voice, etc. The beard alone created the visual needed as even a 15 year old male with a beard can look 40.
This is Topol when he played Tevye in the original 1967 London production of FIDDLER ON THE ROOF (at age 32):
When I saw Topol in Flash Gordon, I was shocked by how young, strong and handsome he looked, and that was nearly twenty years after he did Fiddler. So much of the weary, broken dairyman was just acting and a little makeup.

He actually has the look of Jake in that photo. I can see Jake in Fiddler much more than Josh.
Also these days age is so much more subjective. People look younger now than they did 30 or more years ago at the same age.
First, obviously duh yes please God in heaven let this happen and happen ASAP but secondly, I feel like Tevye is like Rose, where he’s usually played a lot older than he should be.
If we’re looking at a man like Tevye with 7 children who has been married for 25 years, from a historical standpoint, it’s more than possible Tzeitel was born before he was even 18 and she’s 19 in the musical. So knowing that and just saying he was 18 when married he’d be 43 (very possible he was a couple years older or younger). Right now, Jake is 42 so it’s perfect casting.
