Yesterday I bit the bullet and bought a last minute flight to NYC, getting in Tuesday night (3/7) and leaving early Sunday morning (3/12). Most did this to see PARADE, which I've already bought tickets for for Friday night and to get out of my house for a few days (I work from home). Now I'm thinking about what to do for the other nights I'm in town, and I'm at a loss for what to see. Here are the options I've been mulling over:
PETER PAN GOES WRONG - I've seen The Play That Goes Wrong twice and really enjoyed myself both times, and I'd love to see this show with the original British cast rather than on tour.
FUNNY GIRL - I'm not really a huge fan of the actual show itself, but from what I've heard Lea Michele is so good it's not to be missed. As much as I'd love to see her, she's out the entire week I'm in town except for Wednesday, when prices are way of my range. I was hoping to stay around $100 for each show, but the cheapest I see for Wednesday is $200. Is it worth it for the extra hundred?
I would try to rush, but I will be working from the hotel in the day and thus will be unable to do it in-person, which leaves my options for cheaper shows pretty bleak.
KIMBERLY AKIMBO - I honestly had no intentions of seeing this show until all the great word of mouth came about. Now I'm wondering if this small show is worth seeing in NYC or if it will tour so I can see it then. It doesn't quite seem like my sort of thing, but I'm willing to give anything a chance!
SHUCKED - I'm intrigued! Plus tickets are cheap, and who knows if this will ever get out of NYC? A bit of a gamble, though, since I'll be seeing it the week previews start and thus can't really gauge any reactions until the tickets are bought.
MOULIN ROUGE - Generally I'm not a big fan of jukebox musicals, but I do love the movie and would be interested in seeing Tveit.
LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS - I've heard great things about this production, but I did Little Shop in high school and at this point know every word and don't particularly care to see the show again. I would buy tickets if it seems to be worth it, though, and I would like to Maude Apatow as I loved her in Euphoria.
Those are the big ones I'm considering, but if anyone else has suggestions I'd be more than happy to hear them. I'm really not looking to see any jukebox shows like & Juliet, MJ, or A Beautiful Noise.
Kimberly Akimbo and Funny Girl cannot be missed, they are both so special. And yes, please try Shucked, I think it will be a sleeper hit, tickets are so reasonable and that cast? Fire.
Victoria Clark is on vacation that week from Kimberly Akimbo - its still worth seeing but just so you're aware. I'd actually see if you can get a ticket to Sweeney Todd - prices are a little nuts right now but worth swinging by the box office to see if there's a single you can get.
I would go to see Funny Girl, Bad Cinderella, Titanique? I haven't seen Shucked or Dancin' but hear good things about them. I hate Kimberly Akimbo so I wouldn't recommend that to my worst enemy.

I just looked at Wednesday night 3/8 for Funny Girl, and you can get this seat in orchestra row R (13) for only $111. For the price, you can't beat it, and I'd snap that ticket up immediately if I were you. Seats in that area are $222 on the night before:
If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it?
These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.
I would put my vote in for Kimberly Akimbo- it's a quirky dark comedy that has so much unexpected heart. The theater for Little shop is smaller so really no bad seats and the show has great names in it right now. I would also suggest MJ. You can usually get rush and tkts for Kimberly and sometimes Little Shop! Have a great time!

You've convinced me! I just bought the tickets, excited to see Lea in person :)
Now I've got Funny Girl on Wednesday, Shucked on Thursday, Parade on Friday, and two open spots for Saturday. I'm choosing between, Kimbery Akimbo, Moulin Rouge and Hadestown. I figure I'll buy tickets to one ahead of time and then try to rush the other, since it'll be my one day off of work when I can actually do that.
I've also heard good things about Some Like It Hot, and since I'm a fan of big classic Broadway I feel like that could be fun. How likely is this to go on tour?
Any idea which shoes I have the best chance of getting tickets to via rush? Or if buying matinee and rushing night vs the opposite would be better?

Definitely recommend Some Like It Hot. Got very strong reviews and everyone I know who has seen it has loved it. It’s probably going to rack up lots of Tony noms. And it’s original. Not jukebox.
I'm going to recommend Kimberly Akimbo!! go in the right orchestra/house right and NOT house left, or it could be obstructed. I loved it and it's a cute and quirky show that will be all the hype Tony's season too. Shucked I can't speak to because I haven't seen it, but Some Like it Hot I've heard amazing things about and based on everything I've interacted with it, is a great show. There is also Christian Borle in it and he's always AMAZING. Bad Cinderella is enjoyable if you need something comedic, but you can't take it seriously otherwise you'll hate it. speaking of hating, hadestown was so boring and will definitely tour, and so will moulin rouge so keep that in mind.
just my two cents, and TLDR Kimberly akimbo is my vote!!

Good points about Moulin Rouge and Hadestown, I think I'm going to catch them on tour. Some Like It Hot and Kimberly Akimbo will be my Saturday shows, the only question is which would be better to purchase tickets in advance and which would be better/easier to rush?
Also, putting in another vote for Titanique. They have a Saturday show at 5pm. You could do KA matinee, hop on the subway over to Titanique, and then come back for the evening show.
KA wasn’t on my list at all when I went back in December and it wound up being the best thing I saw (aside from Lea Michele in Funny Girl which is not to be missed for any sum of money)
