Father Time is a beautiful song but it didn't ring true to that character AT ALL for me. She does a complete 180 from how we have been introduced to her to when she has this tender moment. The character arc didn't make sense especially since we never really see this tender or conflicted motherly side from her again.
"

This was my take off-Bway. Her character is irredeemably horrible but then has this touching moment and then reverts back to horrible? I thought Kimberly's parents were generally cartoonish. A rare misstep in this show. But maybe its been fleshed out differently on Bway

Apparently not. I didn't see it off-bdwy so this was my take away from the bday production. The dad's song is a bit better. It's simple and kind of touches more on "a life of circumstance and possible regret" with an underlying message of "if I could do it differently" which feels a bit more honest.

She is definitely a conflicted character and you see her “tender motherly side” in several scenes like the surprise bday party at the ice skating rink and the attempt at a home cooked meal towards the end….

I mean she is making videos for her unborn child… that qualifies as “motherly” to me, in a warped twisted sort of way…

Colleen Fitzpatrick went on as Kimberly last week. Did anyone catch her in the role?

I did! I thought she was wonderful! Nothing tops Victoria, but she's a great understudy. There is a certain quality to Victoria's voice that I don't really know how to describe (she sounds a bit muffled but in a good way), but Colleen has or does it too, which I really appreciated. Maybe some little things here or there that were different, but she hasn't really had the chance to develop her version of the character yet, so it didn't feel like there were very many big choices she was making.

Saw the matinee! I have no words! I went into this show not knowing much about it but left emotional and changed forever! It’s sad that some people have to go through something like this but what Kimberly has is real. This showed me to enjoy every moment of my life whether it may be short or long. Bonnie Muligan! My god! That woman is a force of nature! Her performance brought the house down! I swear, she better win a Tony! Same goes for Victoria Clark! I was brought to tears from her performance. She showed that even though her life is short, she made the best of it! That’s what we all should do in life. Make the best of it! I have a feeling this may be the next musical theatre sensation. Please, go see this before it becomes an extremely hot ticket! It’s gonna be running for a while!

The idea is to work and to experiment. Some things will be creatively successful, some things will succeed at the box office, and some things will only - which is the biggest only - teach you things that see the future. And they're probably as valuable as any of your successes. -Harold Prince

Plan to see this in mid January (if still open, who knows with horrible ticket sales upcoming). Any issues with extreme side views like 2 seats from the walls?

I don't think this show has a lot of flaws besides me nitpicking. I saw Bonnie in other world recently (great show!). When I saw she was in this I figured she would be great here too and that was true. She brought down the house today. She has a huge voice and great comedic timing.

The rest of the cast was great as well but bonnie was the definite standout. I can't imagine that the show is too expensive to run. There aren't any A list stars that would command big money. The orchestra is under the max and the cast is only 9 people.

No doubt about there being an quick standing ovation here.

A.J Holmes has come on as a swing for Buddy according to his Instagram account...really love him but he seems a bit young for the part compared to the other performers..?

Buddy would be 33/34 if he and Pattie had Kimberly their senior year of high school, so he appears to be exactly the right age at 34. Steven Boyer is 43, so if anything, he’s too old for the part but reads younger. (It helps that Boyer got his “big break” in his early 30s playing a high schooler.)

Funny thing is that he's actually the right age for the character.

I went knowing basically nothing about the show and loved, it's such a hearwarming story about time and choices, and somehow there's love in that.

Feels like the entire afternoon was filled with a great energy that I wish I could come back to see many more times.

Victoria Clark and Bonnie Milligan are simply sublime, Milligan has made me OBSESSED with ''Better''.

Clark's performance is different to me at first, but after you settle, it's very nuanced and real, and it's difficult to make the premise believable, but she did.

Congrats to David and Tesori, hope both get their due when the next Tony's come.

I was at the show last night and really enjoyed it. As many have mentioned Bonnie is certainly the scene stealer and the show really comes alive whenever she’s onstage. I think it’s a really lovely little show and hope it survives the winter. I will say I thought act 1 was stronger than act 2. I think coming of age sort of stories often struggle to wrap things up in a satisfying way without being overly conclusive and I think I was feeling that with this one.

I was concerned to see that the mezzanine was half empty last night despite it being a small theater (but I got a seat upgrade so I’ll be okay with it).

How do the seat upgrades work?

It wasn’t an “official” upgrade, it was just at intermission everyone in the back row moved forward.

Was at opening night of Some Like It Hot, and KA is still hands down the best new musical of the season. SLIH was missing all the heart that KA has an abundance of, and this is something you can’t cover up or disguise with another tap number.

Yes - all of this. This video is a great sample of the tone of the show. I've seen KA four times and can't wait to see it again.  Once was enough for SLIH.
