I got tickets. Definitely a full filming for release somewhere. They are running the show and then doing some scenes filmed from upstage/onstage.

That was a fun (and long) day. All in all about 5 hours total but a very cool experience. I had forgotten just how much I loved this musical. If I were a Tony voter, it would absolutely get my vote.

No real clues as to where it’ll air but at one point someone onstage mentioned us “being on tv”. They didn’t edit any of the language (quite a few “f*cks” in there) so I can assume it’s not for something like PBS. They did say they’d been filming it for the past three days, as well.

But whatever the future of this show on Broadway is, I’m really happy this will exist for everyone to be able to see. Easily my favorite of the musicals eligible for the Tony Awards this year.

Yeah, it was delightful to revisit that show. It would have a vote from me as well. At one point they said they don’t even know yet who/where it will be released.

I will also say, Craig Bierko is good, but I did miss Kudisch…

Yeah, I do miss Marc. Such a shame he won’t be a part of this.

And I call bullsh*t on the “We spent all this money and time to film this over four days but we have no idea what we’re gonna do with it” thing.

Haha yeah, SOMEONE was footing that bill.

I will also say I had someone near me who was like “this was very lucky, I was ready by to pay to see the show!”

I so wish I could have been there.

This show is such an extraordinary thing to experience. I’ve seen it three times in different cities and I was a mess    At the end of each visit.:)

i dont get back to the city til the end of June. I do wish the run could hold on for a couple of extra weeks. Sigh.

The dude did say we’d “be on tv” so that would make sense.

Mr. Wormwood said: "Slightly off topic but is there any chance of this show getting extended beyond June 11? I'm planning a trip for July and would love to see it.“

If you can change your schedule you now have one extra week.  I hope you get to see it.

Lolol extending to June 19th doesn’t help Mr Wormwood, who clearly said he’s coming in July.

Oops! My error, I thought it was until July 19th.  I should have checked.

Producers: “We are starting discussions with distributors to find this film a home”

I wonder if we"ll see more of this. Producers taking the plunge on live captures themselves and then hoping the ravenous "content" appetite will land them a buyer.

That's what Hamilton's producers gambled on. But you need a "hot" property for that to pay off (which they did). We'll never know if it paid off for Disney, though, but for sure Girl from North Country won't sell for anywhere near what Hamilton commanded.

This is how the vast majority of the filmed stage productions of shows work already.

1) The filming deal is brokered between the creatives/rightholders by the producer.
2) It's funded by a group of investors (who may or may not already be involved with the Broadway production).
3) The producer then finds distribution –– be it a streamer who buys it in a negative pickup deal, or if it's licensed to someplace like Great Performances or Fathom Events or Broadway HD or whatever.

Like you say, most shows will not be anywhere near as hot as HAMILTON (in any capacity). Content "paying off" for a streamer is all based on internal metrics. Every property's success metrics will be different, and the streamers don't share that with the public.

I was going to suggest that Peacock (NBCUniversal) would be a good home because Universal Music owns the Dylan catalogue now –– but Uni Music is separate from NBCUni so that wouldn't be a factor. I really don't know that this is going to be desirable for anyone. It's not like Dylan himself is involved with it, and the Broadway grosses cannot substantiate the value of the property.

Charlie Parsons, one of the lead producers, created “Survivor”. He may be tight with some current execs that came up with him in the TV world which could help this taping find a home more easily than it otherwise might if he wasn’t involved.

I work at the Performing Arts Library. TOFT already taped Girl From the North Country last November. (A multi-camera shoot by the way, with close-ups, medium shots, and long shots.) Whatever is taking place tomorrow is not related to the library.
"

This is slightly unrelated, but may I message you with a question about a show that may have been filmed?

You can search TOFT’s website to see if they have something. Use the word “videorecording” (one word) in your search.

Well that makes sense. Didn’t know that about Parsons.

Similar to Frank Marshall being a lead producer of DIANA, which is how it got filmed by/for Netflix.

Ah, I didn’t know that about Diana. Makes sense also. Otherwise they might have taken one look at it and said “No Thanks.”

I think with the trillion$ Parsons has delivered to the TV industry, he can snap his fingers and have plenty of options for North Country. Fingers crossed, anyway!

P.S. This is the best interface for looking up videos in the Theatre on Film and Tape Archive. It's set in such a way that any search will result in TOFT holdings only.

You know... Frank Marshall is also among the myriad Producers of A Strange Loop. Not only is it hilarious that the man produced that and Diana in the same cycle, maybe it's a sign of the possibility that A Strange Loop could eventually get a Pro Shot as well.
