I am not a fan of the blatant shilling that is obvious in the OP but I fail to see what the film is "promoting." The trailer at least seems well made, and people need to be made aware of Garth and his many sins. (I hope the film does a good job of it.)

It is well to remember that "Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it." (Santayana, more or less)

To me, the OPs post sounded like is was a very "pro" Drabinsky film. But, watching the trailer, you realize it is not.

If we're not having fun, then why are we doing it? These are DISCUSSION boards, not mutual admiration boards. Discussion only occurs when we are willing to hear what others are thinking, regardless of whether it is alignment to our own thoughts.

Hogan, let me clarify: I was referring to the OP's wording. It was very strange. However, it looks like they updated it, maybe?

No, its not changed...but that was the point of my post.

That was a terrible trailer. That said, if it's even-handed on his contributions and crimes, it might be an interesting watch.

15 minutes in, and the big thing sticking out to me is how terrible the sound mixing is. Half the time, the music is so loud that you can't hear what the narration is saying.

Otherwise, it's at about the level of quality of a documentary you'd see on the History Channel. No more insight into Drabinsky's life than you could get from reading his Wikipedia page.

What's weird is that they have clips of an interview with Elaine Stritch. The way it's shot looks like it was specifically for the movie, even though she died 7 years ago. How long has the director been sitting on this movie?

This documentary was originally released in 2012.

What a petty and uninformed response. The film had its premiere at the Toronto Film Festival no less and then ran on Canada's version of Netflix to rave reviews. I saw it at the film festival and it was so much fun. Why not see it before adding senseless comments?

A couple things:

1. So what if it premiered at TIFF? So did Dear Evan Hansen. Bad movies are allowed to play at film festivals.

2. Wouldn't the Canadian version of Netflix also be Netflix?

3. I don't think my response is uninformed, it's a response on my experience watching the beginning of this film. Does the sound mixing resolve itself and the commentary go a lot deeper right after the point that I shut the movie off?

4. Any particular reason why you created your account 3 days after Paradise Square opened, and have only posted on their previews thread and this thread?

I JOINED TO PROMOTE A FILM THAT I LIKED TO THE BROADWAY COMMUNITY. I suggest you tone down the rhetoric and comment after you see the film versus a trailer . Nothing worse than an armchair critic who does not put in the work

So telling another poster how they can or can't react to what they DID see is promoting the film?  And you joined just to promote the film -- even though you joined nearly 2 weeks ago and someone else started this thread?

Why be offended that someone else didn't like what you did? The first 15 minutes were unappealing enough to AlexKulak2 that he couldn't continue - he was upfront that he only watched a small part of it. Sheesh - Will Smith - calm down.
