Christian Lewis has been instrumental in trying to destroy JLP. Yes the show had issues to address, but this could have been done through nucanced conversations and allowing the show to accept mistakes were made and then move forward. But by trying to turn the show into some toxic entity - to try and turn everyone against Lauren Patten - it only helped in speeding up its demise now. So forgive me for a massive eye roll at his tweet regarding this ….
“Despite having issues with JLP, I’m feeling conflicted about it closing. It’s so upsetting that after they released their statement, a nonbinary actor never got to play Jo. This was a chance for authentic nonbinary representation that now won’t get to come to fruition on Bway.”

JLP wasn’t a fave musical of mine, but I’m really sad to see it close for all the cast and crew who will be unemployed as a result, and for everyone who won’t get a chance to give the show a proper goodbye. I’m worried that this is not the beginning …..

I completely agree. I found it sickening. I only enjoyed it on some level because I’m a diehard Alanis fan and knew even the most obscure songs.

Their statement makes it seem like they are closing their doors to protect their cast (implying other producers arent...) when if they were making money, they wouldnt even think about doing this."

With the sudden cancellation of Leapoldstat in Mirvishes Toronto season for Jan Feb and He being a producer on Jagged I wouldn't be surprised if they move the bway production up here to fill the spot. I don't see another touring show that is available for two months starting that soon.

"Leapoldstat" is a Tom Stoppard drama with no star power and a cast of 500. Having that open during a pandemic in a climate where even the hottest ticket in town is still a show you can get tickets to, would be an insanely stupid idea.
