Considering Carrie’s attendance, or lack thereof, not sure why anyone would expect her to carry this on Broadway.

I don't see any reason why this Carrie should do it on Broadway and not sure what the attraction is as she's just not that great and many other girls could easily be Cinderella. Also, my agent friend said this will probably land at the Imperial this fall.

Oh, when I think of the dream casting that can/will be done for the “Hunks” - my mind starts to go places…

As for Carrie, I still contend that the role on Broadway is hers, if she still wants it. She’s very very close to ALW and knowing that doing Broadway is a dream of hers, I can’t see how she doesn’t come with it.

But it’s the other casting I can’t wait for, the Stepmother especially. If Victoria isn’t coming over (she should), than it needs someone who can totally camp it up and we’ve got no shortage of actresses like that.

As for the Queen - I kinda think it’s a role PERFECT for Sherie, should she want to do another new musical. In fact now that I’ve said it, it’s the only casting I want for that role.

Some of whether Carrie will take the role on Broadway may depend upon if she wins an Olivier.  I tend to recall the fact a performer won an award for a particular performance makes it easier to have the perfomer on Broadway without Equity's objection.

There was reference elsewhere in this thread about her attendance.  Obviously the show is on haitus right now, but I hadn't heard of an attendance problem (an alternate is scheduled to go on for certian performances).   What was the issue?  Could it be explained by legitimate COVID issues?

I doubt she’ll win with Jessie Buckley in contention.

That's a tough choice! I am so angry that I can't get to London to see Cabaret! Praying to god that version comes to Broadway with Eddie and Jessie performing in the future!

I have a question about Cinderella. Isn’t this a property / character owned by Disney? How did ALW get the rights to do a musical? Wouldn’t Disney want to keep it for themselves and produce it in one of their own theaters like Aladdin, Lion King, B&B, Mary Poppins? Thanks in advance!

Cinderella is public domain. This is not Disneys Cinderella this is ALWs Cinderella. It’s like how Rodgers and Hammerstein have their own Cinderella. Had ALW directly ripped off Disney’s Cinderella I’m sure there would be issues, but he doesn’t. As long as it’s inspired from Grimm Brothers Cinderella, there isn’t really an issue.

Carrie Hope Fletcher's Olivier Awards competition will include not only Jessie Buckley's Sally Bowles but also Sutton Foster's Reno Sweeney.

Besides those three, I can’t think of anyone else who would be actual competition this year besides Audrey Brisson (is she eligible since that was a transfer?)

Audrey Brisson won’t be in competition as she was nominated in last year’s Oliver awards for the first run of Amelie. Another possible contender could be Amara Okereke who is astonishing in the new Spring Awakening. I doubt Lisii LaFontaine will get a look in for her Satine, or if she does it’ll only be to make up numbers.

I’d love to see Rachel York or the aforementioned Sherie Rene Scott as the Queen, and Leslie Kritzer or Lesli Margherita as the Stepmother for Broadway.

Thank you for the answer!! I didn’t know this  - always thought Disney owned it all.

Why on god’s green earth should I be excited for ANOTHER god damn Cinderella with a “twist on an old tale”?

like is this actually good? Is this over the top good? Has a real case been made by Andrew Lloyd Webber why we need to explore this property again?

I’m genuinely curious. If you aren’t tired of seeing this story adapted in a million ways then what is pulling you into being pumped for this?
"

Well, as perhaps the Cinderella story's biggest fan, I can say for me at least, I would rather see a zillion traditional versions of Cinderella all different by varying degrees, and I don't fully like everything in Lloyd Webber's more twisted Cinderella, but I like most of it, especially most of the music, which is rather beautiful in some places. I just wish it had the magic of the traditional story. They keep saying it's a fairy tale within the show, yet the Godmother has no magic and is a plastic surgeon! Other than that, I like it. It has some social commentary on beauty and what people do to be accepted or even loved, it has a nice relationship between the leads, and pretty good, sometimes quite funny dialogue, thanks to Oscar winner Emerald Fennell.

Actually the version of Cinderella both Disney's and Andrew Lloyd Webber's versions are based on is Charles Perrault's, which was written before the Grimm's. That's the one that invented the glass slippers and fairy godmother.

Did they rework any of Sabastian’s material when they made changes to the show? I’m surprised he calls women bimbos and imbeciles. He says they’re all grasping, boring and vapid. Is all of that still in the show? Granted, it’s a fair criticism of the majority of the women in the show as they are written which is unfortunate, but it doesn’t really endear me to him as a character either.

So Carrie Hope Fletcher announced a Spring 2023 UK Concert tour. Could this mean that she won't go with Cinderella to NYC? It's only from May 18 - June 4. Just curious.

It would seem odd for ALW to let her leave the show or take a 3-week vacation at the peak of Tony season. Weirder things have happened, but that's puzzling. This isn't a star situation like Jennifer Hudson in CP, where she was only signed on for 6 months of performances.

I think people need to remember that a clear rift between Carrie and Webber has been happening for months, her social media, as well as other cast members social media clearly referred to unhappiness in the cast. I can't see him taking Carrie.

What happened between the cast and ALW? COVID stuff, or other things?

Regardless –– she is easily replaceable, and is certainly not a "name" here on Bway.

I feel like he's a savvy producer and why bring over someone who won't sell tickets here - unless she becomes a breakout star like Erivo, which didn't even make a profit for that production, so probably not a great example - and spend money on their travel, housing, etc.

I feel like the physical production for this show is so ho-hum. The only wow moment won't happen over here, so I hope they rethink the show and give us something that feels substantial.
