I think they'll announce the cast once rehearsals start

Question does Ben Platt get Boq because of his dad?  If he does that would put him in two of the lamest characters in musical history.  I can't read back so much so please let me know if they've even considered that casting.

After the DEH reaction I wouldn't be surprised if Platt is sworn off playing high school/university aged characters again.

Got me on Nathan Crowley. I loved his production design on the Greatest Showman

Yeah I don’t think Platt or any studio wants him to continue playing a student after all the criticism about his DEH movie casting. But to be fair, he probably wouldn’t look too old with Erivo in the same film playing around that age, when she reads way older than him. I’m guessing they’ll have a decent number of older looking faces to make her standout less in that vein.

That’s part of why I don’t get the pairing of Erivo and Grande. The former’s role is supposed to be older, but only slightly, and the two of them look around a decade apart.

Cynthia being covered in green will make her look younger

With technology these days it’ll be dead easy to make Erivo look younger for the first film, especially, as someone has said, she’ll be covered in green makeup that will likely be retouched in post. It’s making Grande look older in the second film that’s worrying me.

For the record, I think Erivo will look just fine. But I wish people would stop putting faith in de-aging technology. I’ve yet to see it fully cross the uncanny valley.

I wonder how they'll do Dillamond's look.

Not what I consider to be a huge update, but preliminary art for the movie was released at The Licensing Expo:

Now the 2-parter makes more sense as they will be adding elements from Gregory Maquire’s original novel into the musical adaptation.  Sorta like what they did with Bob Fosse’s 1972 film adaptation of the Broadway musical CABARET - they combined the musical with elements from Isherwood’s original Berlin stories.

The book and the show are so different and it'll be interesting to see which elements filter through and how they fit in.

You don't think that will fit right into "Dancing Through Life"?

We won’t see the tiger orgy or Elphaba being implied to be intersex, I’d wager.

I wonder how long ago they decided on the two film structure.

I’m sure the decision to turn the film into a 2-parter is what has kept any cast announcements.  I’m sure they probably lost people who were in consideration during contract negotiations.  Each film would be considered a separate film even though they are being filmed simultaneously and I’m sure agents want separate contracts and fees, etc.  This is how many films lose interested actors when contract terms aren’t met.  The film is expected to be a blockbuster and no one wants to kick themselves in the head later.

Incorrect. Movie scooper Grace Randolph reported this months and months ago. It has been known in Hollywood this would be two parts for some time.

This is true. She said it ages and ages ago. I remember scoffing at the idea when I first heard it and look where we are now.

Confirmed: Tony Award winner/Oscar nominee Cynthia Erivo as Elphaba, and Grammy Award winner Ariana Grande as Glinda.
