God, I love this town!
Don't you love this town?
It's got all of these
Opportunities.
Can't afford to turn them down.
Some may not work out.
Some go up the spout,
Plenty more around the corner--
And what's 'round the corner, sweetheart,
That's what life's about.

"Rose in Gypsy was like going through therapy for me. Playing Rose helped me put a lot of emotions to bed. There was so much lacking in Rose and that's why she had to prove herself through her children. [interviewer]In ways that reminded you of your mom?[/interviewer]. Let's just say the role was very interesting for me. That one was the most interesting [I've ever played]" - Bernadette Peters (2018)

John Mulaney needs to write a Broadway musical. He’s a great writer and musical genius.

Even if it wasn't the best in his musical canon (The fact he had to loop the underwear back into the narrative by saying "Remember how it all started with this?" was a tell), Mulaney still remains one hell of a sketch writer and the first Broadway musical he writes, I will throw my whole paycheck at and see multiple times.

Side Note: If he hosts one more time, he will be the first SNL writer (past or present) to join the Five-Timers Club without ever having been a regular cast member.

John Mulaney already wrote a musical with Seth Meyers called Co-Op: The Musical and it's fukcing amazing. Get out from under your rock and go watch it. It's an episode on the series Documentary Now on Netflix.

If you've seen the Merrily We Roll Along documentary Best Worst Thing That Ever Could Have Happened, you'll get the joke. Mulaney as Sondheim is my most favorite thing ever:

"When you lean into a rhyme, you shatter the conversational tone of the lyric. It's like nails on a blackboard to me, and I love you all."

"You are young. Life has been kind to you ...You will learn."

That's a little harsh, especially considering quizking and BrodyFosse both said they want him to write a BROADWAY musical - which Co-Op is not. Even if they didn't say "Broadway" specifically, I think it would've been safe to assume that they meant a full-length stage musical, not a 20 minute parody on a TV show.

Lol!! I can't with this board. There are people on here who out right attack others. My "get out from under your rock" comment was tongue-in-cheek and directed at no one.

Also, if you were in the know, Co-Op: The Musical has been in the works as a full Broadway musical for awhile now with a full length cast album coming soon (what "soon" means post COVID who knows).

Seriously guys... if the regulars on here aren't claiming to know everything about everything, they're tearing apart other people comments. Let's focus on adding some value here and less on starting sh!t.

Also, Documentary Now!’s mockumentary Original Cast Album: CO-OP is spoofing the documentary Original Cast Album: COMPANY, about the recording sessions of the 1970 Original Broadway Cast album for Sondheim’s COMPANY. It had zero to do with the documentary BEST WORST THING THAT COULD EVER HAVE HAPPENED.

Ok, if that's the case, then I apologize for getting up in arms. Tone is not always easy to read on the internet, and I do think you could have done a better job of making your playful intention clear, but I'm also sorry for jumping a conclusion.

"Co-Op: The Musical has been in the works as a full Broadway musical for awhile now with a full length cast album coming soon (what "soon" means post COVID who knows)."

Cool! Didn't know this. Would you mind directing me to your source, so I can learn more about this? I did a quick Google search but nothing relevant came up.

"Seriously guys... if the regulars on here aren't claiming to know everything about everything, they're tearing apart other people comments. Let's focus on adding some value here and less on starting sh!t."

I didn't mean to "tear you apart" or "start sh!t" and I apologize for making you feel that way.

But also, I never claim to know everything about everything. If you follow my posts on this board, you'll know that I try to add value, while always being open to correction, and always admitting when I'm wrong - and trying to be respectful even in disagreement. I've lost my temper sometimes, I admit, but in general I try really hard to be level-headed in my posts on this board. I agree that not everyone is like that, so please don't lump me in with them.

You lost me a bit here. You were telling "no one" to "get out from under their rock" - after 2 people in the thread before you had expressed their desire for Mulaney to write musical?

I think it's referred to as a general statement.

^Fair enough, and actually Sutton, your comment made me realize that me picking apart MlleDaae's post that degree is probably only starting even more sh!t.

I edited my post above so that it communicates my main points, without getting bogged down by petty nitpicks.

I'm quite intimately familiar with Co-op, thank you very much

Considering all the songs in that show, and his SNL sketches, riff off existing songs in the musical theatre Canon, I would be thrilled to see him work with a composer and writers for an ORIGINAL FULL-LENGTH musical.
